Who was America's first millionaire?.........hint, he had headquarters on Mackinaw Island for a time. At least a "warehouse" of sorts.
Yep thats right, now if I could only pronounce that girls name and it be right. AS for millionaire maybe Astor for first in America and Dousman in Wisconsin, both fur related I think.
Bingo on JJ Astor!

P.S. to my original question......Astor was the first multi-milliomaire by some sources, first millionaire by others. At any rate, he was loaded and was a big player in the early fur trade.

This is a while before the 1800's but the Canadians were a wild bunch for sure and not too well liked by the euro's(Bay men).

What I am reading is that of the 15 rendezvous held in a 16 year period (1825-1840), 6 were at the Green River/Horse Creek site near Pinedale. That's more than any 2 other sites combined, certainly making it the most significant site.

Good map of the sites here:

Nice.Thanks

It's what I read posted there at the museum. The largest gathering of the mountain men took place right there in where Pinedale is now.

Several of the rendezvous took place on Horse Creek near Daniel Wyoming about 20 miles west of Pinedale. In fact more than any other location. There were also rendezvous in Pierre's hole, just west of the Tetons and on the shores of Bear lake, north of Salt Lake. None of them took place where Pinedale is now. The museum in Pinedale is definitely worth spending a few hours there if you're in the area.

It was not an area where they would winter, the climate wasn't right for it. They liked areas such as Bear Lake, The Bitterroot valley and other places with mild winters.

There's actually a lot of inaccurate info in this article, but that's not uncommon it's hard to separate the truth from fiction.

Burnt Fork 1825 Cove 1826 Bear Lake 1827-28
Lander 1829 Riverton 1830 1831 Rendezvous
Pierre’s Hole 1832 Horse Creek 1833 Hams Fork 1834
Horse Creek 1835 Horse Creek 1836 Horse Creek 1837
Riverton 1838 Horse Creek 1839 Horse Creek 1840
