I bought them in the fall never did that before but I lost several to a toxic cantaloupe mid summer and this was the last batch of the year they would get in. Took the 25 they had at the time maybe week old then. They have been under a heat lamp until they got big enough to go to the main coop a few weeks ago.

Now when the sun goes down some don’t go back to the coop they just hang outside in the dark I have pick them up and dump them in the hole to the coop. Last night I went out at 10 and sure enough I see one standing in the yard like it had no clue.

Thinking it was too much time with the heat lamp on 24/7 maybe never rain into this before.

Are you ever around the coop at dusk to observe? Had it happen that some birds would bully others and not let them in.

How long did you leave them locked up inside before you turned them out? Could be they don't know where home is.

Generally takes them at least a week locked up for them to "home" to the house. After that, I allow them a small pen outside......no more than 10 square feet. They practice going in and out. That is for about another week. After that, they should accept house as home sweet home and go inside at night.

Mine do that in the late fall here, when the days get short and it gets cold they are roosting in the trees and all fluffed out and wont come in after dark. That's abut the time I keep them cooped for the winter . I think it has something to do with the cold, and short days.

I'd say this. Or what Zim said.

These guys are all over I don’t see any bulling beyond the normal pecking order always a few Karen’s in the bunch. LOL I’m out filling the boiler often and see them just standing around or they are out and about before I let the rest out in the morning. Found a few under the coop before it’s only about 3-4 that seem to be the problem.

My cousins raised free range chickens before it became a fad a few hundred at any time and they always had a few that just would not take up coop living and would instead roust in the barn or shed no matter what

Been going on for a few weeks now very tame chickens I just pick them up and pitch them in the coop they don’t start laying bigger eggs they might be game hens real soon.
