A well taken care of machine will work till it cannot function anymore, congrats on your attitude and stamina, most should stay working as long as they can in this day and age,

Also I think Jtrapper needs a special handle under his name for referring to you as a beat up woman !!

Sounds like that has been a pretty good gig. Would like to think of something funny to say but truth is beaver'n' is hard work and if you can keep going into your 70's you're doing' alright.

I used to trap a stretch of the Willamette river as a young pup in the early 80's and there was an ol' timer by the name of Jack Rogers originally a "coon arse" from Louisiana (that's what he claimed anyway). He was in his mid 70's and still going at it. I learned a lot from him just watching what he was doing. I'm not sure how old he was when he quit but I am thinking in his late 70's. Quitting was fatal...he died not long after.

Happy new year Paul! And thanks for the access you provide on this site.

Ps. I'd be curious to hear what the most beavers you ever trapped in 1 year is, Paul.

As for castor, there's no way I can catch enough beavers to meet my need for castor. I have to buy castor to do that. Last year I bought and used over 300 pounds of it.

The beaver population is thinner now than it use to be years ago. It use to be that I would only have to drive very short distances from one site to another, but now the distance is much longer between sites. When they were more abundant, I could catch quite a few in a short time. It's hard to catch a bunch when you're behind the wheel driving most of the day. As for how many in a year, I'll just say that I've caught my share.

One thing for sure - Bossman suggested we drive Toyotas years ago and we took his advice....
and have missed out on being in Chevy service bays all the time ever since.
Thank you Paul!

Blessings brother,
Mark

Mark, I've never suggested that y'all should drive Toyotas. I merely told of my experience with them.

The silver one is the one I'm driving now with over 696,000 miles on it.

Paul, it sounds to me like you aren't charging enough, raise your rates high enough and they'll want you to retire lol.

You may not have directly suggested driving a Toyota, but the members that have driven Toyota trucks understand why we drive them.
Yeah, I think I'd send Toyota PR people a picture if that truck when you really do retire.
Good luck next year.

You see an order for four jars of Skunky Backbreaker, that's me. You're making me nervous.

I agree with what someone else mentioned you should train some one in the ways of the beaver!

What about the lure business is there an heir to the throne or will they retire with you

Well my friend... take it from me. When the parts (either yours or your trucks) wear out, you don't have much choice. I believe some of this is bred into our genes. I can not figure it out any other way. To me it is like breathing. It is not something you think about doing you just do it, come h3ll or highwater. My trapping is down to piddeling little runs or ponds, but as much as I say I am going to quit... well, I find a way around it and keep on, keeping on. My hands and my back are worn out, and my eyes are not far behind. What else can I do?

I believe there are some of us out there that will quit, when are motor just won't start. Keep fighting the good fight Paul !!!!

I second that! Now I am thinking I need to buy bigger and more jars of Backbreaker, Woodchipper and such and find a safe cool dry place to store them... I don't know if I will be beaverin up here in the snow and ice of Northern Michigan at 72, it was 3 F degrees this morning. Things are tightening up fast.

you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!
