On Dec. 10, 2020, Barson, a commercial driver’s license (CDL) holder employed by RoadRunner Transport AZ Inc., USDOT No. 3451500, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, was operating a commercial truck on U.S. 95 in Clark County, Nevada, when he struck seven bicyclists and the riders’ escort vehicle from the rear; five bicyclists were pronounced dead at scene. Another bicyclist and the driver of the escort vehicle received incapacitating injuries and were transported to the hospital.

Barson was subsequently tested by Nevada Highway Patrol officers for controlled substances and was found positive for both amphetamine and methamphetamine; his methamphetamine level was almost 10 times the legal amount permitted by Nevada state law

I wonder if the guy feels any remorse?
My grandmother, two aunts and an uncle were killed by a drugged up trucker in Ohio in the early 70s. I was very young at the time and didn't understand exactly what was going on, just that something was very wrong. The house filled up with people, mom was hysterical, and people were trying to figure out how to get hold of dad, who was a trucker and was out west somewhere.
Anyway, its always sad when innocent life is lost due to the stupid actions of others.

I wondered about that too. I think it should have said amphetamine. Amphetamine, like adderal, is a prescription drug.

Trapdog1, my guess is anybody that irresponsible only feels remorse because of consequences. Not conscience. How could a conscionable person be so irresponsible?

We're all selfish to a degree. Some are selfish hopped up on drugs. I've sat with two couples who lost loved ones to drunk drivers and I have no answer as to why, it often seems, the one doing the drugs and liquor survives to walk away, yet others are killed.

Maybe he was falling asleep at the wheel. Oh wait he was jacked up on meth. There isn't a dark enough place for this guy.

The legal amount would most likely be only a few parts per million. Just like you won't test positive for being around someone smoking marijuana. It's to rule out environmental reasons for a positive test. It's less an allowable amount and more a safe guard against false positives.

Unless NV has a new law that supersedes federal motor carrier regulations.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

An eye for an eye. It won't bring them back but it will prevent him from making the same decision in the future.

I'm not well versed on brands but they sometimes source the amphetamines from over the counter sinus or weightloss medication . That's why you have to scan your ID to get certain sinus medicine and limited to one or two packages in some states .
I would say that is why there is a legal limmit

Sad deal. Seems to me the more open are drug laws get the more drug related issues we will have yet a lot of people see no issue with decriminalization of drugs.....

Guys that kill people while driving under the influence, or steal to buy drugs should go to prison.

This story illustrates very well what a waste of time and money the "war on drugs " is. They are everywhere. ANYBODY who wants to ingest narcotics is ingesting them. The only thing the "war on drugs" has done is put more money into the hands of politicians, judges, cops, street gangs, and cartels, than a lot of countries have.

That corruption is why we have a "war on drugs". Profits bottomed out when ethanol prohibition ended. No more kick back's to legislators judges and cops either.
