Leopold or Redfield for me. Redfield for a more affordable but still really high quality optics. I believe Leopoldo actually makes the Redfield as well now. Leopold for a real high quality option. Made in USA except the lenses, I believe like johnnytrapper and James said.

Amen. Buy once cry once. Leupold. In over 35 years of using several of them one has never let me down. Vortex let me down 3 times in two years. Never again.

My rifle went under in an unfortunate boating accident and spent several hours on the bottom before I finally retrieved it. I had a Redfield Widefield on it at the time. I liked the scope but it didn't hold back the water. Been with Leupold ever since.

Do your self a favor, Google 10 best rifle scopes. You'll get reviews on scopes you didn't know existed. There are many options today that were not available 5 years ago.

Leupold
40 years using them
The one on my 7mag, Iv had it on that gun 35 years, don’t think vortex will last that long
Tough scopes, banged on side of trees while pulling rifle up, never knocked one off
No complaints, not one

I've had Leupolds on all of my scoped rifles for decades. Just last month I put together a mountain rifle and put a Swavorski Z3 on it. Expensive, but the clearest scope Ive ever owned. Im not a fan of anything Vortex.

do unto others as you would have them do unto you

Leupold has yet to let me down. I’ve had a couple of them take some pretty good smacks and they always seem to hold true. The guys at work are always talking about re zeroing their rifles and the awesome vortex customer service. Those are two things I just don’t have to deal with!

I wouldn’t know how leupolds customer service is because in the last 20 years with nearly all my scoped rifles having one mounted on top of them I simply have not had a reason to need a customer service department.

It awesome that a few of those companies have superior customer service and back their products. It’s even better not having to deal with that process. I have contacted leupold a few times over the years to verify serial numbers from online purchases, and as helpful as they were in that process I do not doubt for a minute that their customer service would also be top notch if it was ever needed.
