The movie was typical Hollywood nonsense-not even close to the book and reality. The real lions are preserved at the Field Museum in Chicago.

I believe those lions are in a museum in Chicago, in case anyone wants an excuse to go to Chi-town.

The lions in the museum are underwhelming. Maneless, as they were in real life. Patterson goes on to live a very interesting life.

For another dose of Africana, check out the Njombe Maneaters. Killed over 1000 people. Reign of terror lasted for years until they met up with George Rushby. A couple books about this man- “The Hunter is Death” and “No More The Tusker”. Both outstanding

Also all of Jim Corbett’s books. Especially “Man-Eaters of Kumaon” This man was a phenomenal hunter and naturalist.

My boy wanted to watch that movie every week when he was only 9 or 10. Its a great movie no doubt but he was bound and determined to wear it out.

I saw those mounted lions in the Field Museum in Chicago, when I was in my teens. What amazed me was that the natives didn't immediately get together and hunt down and kill those lions, rather than let so many of their people be killed.

I think they still have trouble with maneaters in tsavo.

Great book and movie!

Goerge Rushby was a top line hunter. Believe he touted the 416 rigby bolt action

They were employed by the railroad, building a bridge I think. Most likely unarmed.
Some countries the lions are protected and the natives are basically a food base. That might have changed in the past years.

I can't even begin to imagine how alive you would feel going after man eating predictors- not predictors that had the potential to become man eaters- certified bad actors who might be hunting you at any moment of your day. Ppl have accused me of being an adrenaline junkie but wow.
