I understand your point and I have a pic on my phone of a whitetail this fall west of you on the Arkansas that is close to 190.And there's a spot were I mule deer hunt were you can see 20 or 30 whitails in a good morning or evening hunt. My point is just that the western third of Ks just isn't going to have as many of the top end whitetail per area as other parts of Kansas. Ashland/Medicine Lodge exempt if you consider them Western Ks. But yes there are huge whitetails from one end of the state to the other. Corner to corner. Kind of like comparing pheasant hunting around here to western ks hunting. Ive walked though fields here were they came out like black birds and alot of years when I bird hunted a lot, I wouldn't have too much problem shooting my limit but our pheasant hunting at its best is nothing like the numbers out west when its at its best.

Only reason I don't like the SE is because it's too much like Missouri. I like the variety of the rest of the state.

As far as the deer hunting goes in this area of Kansas, I feel it is on the decline mostly due to disease. There will continue to be some good deer taken every year, but it has steadily decreased the last 8 to 10 years around here. I hope I am wrong, but that is my observation.

I thought you were coming across or at least thinking about it. I will say some of my favorite country is the sand hills of Nebraska. Just pretty ranchy out there. And not overly crowded.

best part of the sandhills after grouse and coyotes is the water pumped out of the ogallala aquifer. good as any rocky mountain spring water i ever drank

Yes again, best water I've ever tasted! The Ogalla aquifer runs up into the NE of Wy, where I used to trap and got my first taste of real water!
