I’ve been seeing a lot of these for sale lately and it’s got me baffled since I’ve always considered them a top coyote trap. Why would anyone get rid of them??? Obviously it’s a matter of personal opinion of what you like but I’d like to hear everyone’s take on the MB650 for coyote. Let’s here the good and the bad....

Good solid trap with solid good pan tension setting made in USA. Only con for me is its tough to fit my fingers under the jaw to pull the pan down to the nightlatched position. But its not really a big deal. I have the cast jaw ones with offset jaws

I own them because I missed a very large cat in the National Forest bobcat trapping and a 550 wasn't big enough. The foot was bigger than any bobcat track I can explain. I don't like them and missed multiple coyotes with them. I'd rather use a duke 650. Not a fan of the mb 650. Absolutely love the 450 and 550 however. Best traps ever made but the Duke looks better than the stupid mb 650.

Great coyote trap not so much on fox. I would guess low fur prices are why they are being sold off.

Different tools for different jobs. The pan adjustment on them can be a bugger sometimes but then for the price, one can expect to do a little tweaking on them. I'm with Knappet on setting the pan but have figured it out for now. But then like Trapdoc, find there are times I need something little bigger than my 550's. I would like to try out the new trap MB is coming out with. If I like it then maybe I'll be selling my 650's!

Tad small for beaver and illegal to use on land here or I'd own a pile of them.

Love my MB 650's, trigger problems I feel are over-rated. Once you set them enough you get a feel for it.

That’s all I plant anymore up here. They work great. Maybe hold too well on incidental wolves.
Check that. I do plant Jake’s as well.

I've been using 650's for a number of years . Have never used any Jake's . Do you think the Jake's are more or less aggressive than the 650's when it comes to foot/leg damage on incidentals like fox in coyote sets . Thanks

Just get the cast jaws (650s) I let fox go every year in them without any visual damage.

Once I started using the 650Cs I sold about all my other coyote traps. I thought I had good coyote traps but soon realized they were subpar compared to the 650s.

Many people around here used 650s for wolf when we had a season ~6 years ago.

The cast 650’s are what I use too Calvin. Gotta love Dave for coming up with those one handed setters.

They hold them just fine. Then again so do a lot of 4 coiled traps. I saw a beauty being held in a #2 four coil that had been set for coyotes.

Love the trap for power, just too hard on my hands to set 30 or 40 a day. Not to mention, dangerous. I hated not being able to get my fingers under the jaws to set them.

I didn’t like them. They are well made, very strong, they definitely catch and hold coyotes, but I just never liked setting them. I haven’t found a dogless trap that a do like yet.

Step on em. No, they sure aren't rat traps.

I work the pan/trigger from the top while my feet are holding the jaws down.
