I use both and don't really have a preference other than the tool for the stainless rings is smaller and easier to get into small spaces. But you can also use a pair of front cutting pliers to close them and they are a lot cheaper that the pet tool.

The clamp type rings are best. Get the ratcheting crimper. You can’t get it into tighter spots then the bigger crush ring type. I done my whole house in pex. You won’t regret it. I bought the Apollo tool. It has a led light on it to let you know you’ve reached the right crimp.

Cut out the tools altogether and pony up for the shark bite fittings. Best plumbing decision I ever made, so easy it’s stupid. Plus the have a tool you can take the sharkbite fittings off with, so if you make a mistake or need to replace a 90 with a tee then you can just pop the fitting off and reuse it. They are more expensive, but in my opinion worth every penny.

The expansion tool looks like my next investment. I always hated taking a 3/4 pipe to 1/2 by adding any fitting. As far as using all shark bites I think you had part right Bob, it is easy but it IS stupid also. I use shark bites only when I have to. Even though they get great reviews on functionality the cost is the stupid part of it.
Wish I had more time to trap....

I bought the crimp tool that does 1/2 and 3/4. I needed to do some plumbing and after figuring how much each route cost I could buy the crimper as well as the pex tube for the same price as running copper tube sweat fittings. Best investment I made to date.

This here. Run big enough lines and forget about losing flow. Crimps all sizes of that style.

I replaced ALL the water lines in my house with pex 2 1/2 years ago. I used the tool in the picture. Had not a single problem or leak. I got done putting it in, turned the water back on, everything has been no problem. One thing I liked was I could use different colors. Blue for cold and everything out of the water heater is red. Its not that pricey and easy to do.

I too prefer the stainless pinch rings over the crimp press rings. But the expansion tool is the way to go. My plumbing store here (Ferguson) has loaner tools if you buy your materials there. To use expansion fittings you have to use the right type of pex. Can't remember if it's type A or B, but the cheap stuff Depot sells here isn't compatible with expansion.
Bob, Sharkbites have their place but 2 issues: First is cost. With a little practice crimp fittings are just as fast as sharkbites and way cheaper. 2nd is code: Sharkbites are illegal inside walls in some states. Only allowed where accessible. Something to check.
Boco couldn't catch a cold. But if he did, it would be Top Lot.

Furstroker what is that tools name?
Did my whole place in 3/4 to 1/2 pex. Great except the pressure at shower and sink. I plan a redo of some larger tube, another bladder tank, and I have an extra pump but not sure it's needed. Though the ejector is suspect.
Somethings not right, plenty pressure from garden hose connected near tank but further on pressure sucks. A volume thing perhaps.
I'd hire someone if I found that guy.

Sounds like you have a restriction. Some of the new shower heads suck. They come with a restricter installed. I can pee more water then the new showers put out. Sinks have a screen in them that can clog as well.

The more I think on it, there is a section of old cpvc 3/4 near pump and tank that may be restricted. It is the lowest part in system. Warmer weather and I'll tear into it. Keep fixing until good and broke lol.
