Does anyone keep up with their Rabies vaccinations ? I had 2 or 3 incidents that concern me, and 1 went through the glove.

Do you get the booster shot? No Dr. has information on it... at least not near me locally.

Call your county health department. They administer shots. I got a shot a long while back, have had a booster once or twice, but have not kept up with it. The county provides shots at no charge. You can get a titer test to see, but seems just as easy to just get a booster if you are not outdated. Our county health dept. does not know what you are talking about when you ask for pre-exposure shots.

The vast majority of the Drs around here are ignorant about the pre exposure shots as well. A veterinarian could give you better advise on those shots and how to get them than most MDs since the Vets have had the pre-exposure shots. They may be able to steer you in the right direction.

Here in Ohio, my doctor and the health department didn't know anything about it. I talked to my veterinarian and she told me she got hers at the travel immunization clinic at a local hospital. I got mine there. Cost was around $800 for the three shots. Two years later I went to get titer checked. They told me $795 but gave me a discount for paying cash and not having insurance to cover it. Ended up costing $400. I feel that the charges were excessive but had no other options since even the health department couldn't give me any info. Same in Oregon. I'd have had better luck at a bowling alley. Tracked it down myself at a local grocery store with a pharmacy.

Yes, rabies is extremely dangerous. Approximately 2 people die from it every year in the United States! It's like a pandemic! Lmao Walkerdog if you have the pre exposure shots and get bit by a suspected rabid animal you go in and get post exposure shots. If you have no shots and get bit by a suspected rabid animal you go in and get shots. What is the advatage?? Only thing it’s doing is putting something in you for no reason that can possibly cause side effects. Or am I missing something here?

If you get scratched, or bitten, just go straight to the ER. I went to an urgent care, they were clueless. Next day I went to my regular Dr. and he sent me straight to the ER. He said do NOT FUUUCK around with Rabies. Just get the 2 month interval treatment, which I did. The question is I did that last year, so how do I keep up the Titers?? No one really knows, so I'll have to ask a vet.

I had the pre-exposure rabies shots about 15 years ago (due to working in close proximity of thousands of bats every year in my exclusion projects). I get my titer level checked every 2 years. You can add it to regular blood tests for cholesterol, sugars, whatever (normal wellness checks). I have never needed a booster. It is still a bit disturbing that so many have no idea the PRE-exposure shots are NOT a life-long vaccine. If contact is made with any question of rabies involvement, you still need to get the follow-up shots. The pre-exposure shots simply get you a head-start on the process. For that reason, many people choose not to get them, since a rabies exposure mandates a trip for the shots anyway. But those at high risk for exposure are wise to get the pre-exposure shots.
