Thanks for the good information on big bears Bernie. Seems you have opened a can of worms.
Help yourself.

They sure are. I've had this hanging on my wall for years, literally decades, and I always thought it was neat. I got to looking at it one day not all that long ago and wondered what the B&C minimum was for grizzly bear. I checked out their site and saw this bear missed their "All-Time" book by just 3/16ths of an inch. Would have easily made the book had I had it officially scored. Not a big deal, I have no control over how big a head a bear decides to grow and a skull measurement doesn't seem like a great way to me to judge a trophy. You can see the bear was almost 17 1/2 years old, one of the oldest I've ever taken. I wish I still had the skull. Every canine was broken off and every single tooth in the bears mouth had a cavity, every one. I can't imagine the agony. That's probably why the thing was so intent on getting my wind. It saw me but it didn't know what I was. It was cutting downwind of me to pick up my scent when I decided to take it.

This one went #556 after the dogs ran it for about 6 or 7 hours. Bet that one didn't go up a tree! Nope.

At our hunting camp the 3 biggest are 520# 465# and $451#s. I would not find it hard to believe if a world record was shot in Pa. Most of the hunters don't measure the skulls, they go by weight.
