Did I miss why they want wire over wood? They never said why they favor trappers using wire over wood. Just a personal preference of Groenewold, I suspect. NYS In-Country fur buyers all want wire as well. Seen it several times at the NYS auctions where bidders won't pay nearly as much for wood stretched rats as those on wire. All other things being equal, they want wire stretched rats. I'd say end users want wire over wood as well. walleyed

Simple put: The industry created sizes with wire stretched rats. Wood allows a stretch advantage to the producer that doesn’t maintain itself through the dress.

Coons stretched on wood shrink more than coons on wire also.

According to the video, why does pinning on the skirt have anything to do either the grade?
Thats what I was wondering.

According to the video, why does pinning on the skirt have anything to do either the grade? When they are blocking they have to cut all those pin holes off the hide, just another expense, would be my guess

Unless they are every 2mm it won't weaken the leather. You use pins to block pelts.

Stack better? In the baler? Muskrats are all about size. Quality is only a bonus for the middleman.
