I'm always open to horse trading.
I once traded a 9ft/35lb Boa Constrictor w/55gal aquarium and accessories for a car and cash.

Wouldn’t call it bartering, but my Dad will talk a department store associate and manager down in price on everything from clothes to sporting goods. This is also the same man that took me to lunch at Sam’s...we walked around trying out the food they were cooking as little appetizers to sell the product. It’s almost embarrassing until you see him walk away with deals you couldn’t imagine. That's more haggling than bartering , just as good . Couple tips , if you need some drywall but not the whole sheet , ask for a salesperson. I have gotten full sheets with a small corner clipped for $1. They just want it gone. Also Lowes will generally give you a broken , taped up box of nails/screws for half price , again ask for a salesperson as they just want that gone too.

Another thing I do along these lines , is called 'Cherry picking'
I go to several stores in my area like Walmart - Target and Home Depot or Lowes. Not looking to buy anything in particular. I walk through the stores just hitting the pockets of items marked down or on clearance. Avoiding any normally priced items. I have just one goal in mind , finding something on the cheap in these little spots that I can use. It is mostly hit-or-miss , with a lot of miss. But when you hit , you hit good. Almost like a treasure hunt. I can shop several stores in quick succession as you only spend about 10-15mins in each store. Plus , even when you come up empty-handed , it is good exercise walking around the perimeter of each store. Good cold or rainy day activity. The thrill of the hunt factor comes in too.

My wife has a friend that does that. She has a whole spare bedroom loaded to the ceiling with stuff she'll never use. But she got an amazing deal on all that stuff.

My landscaping subcontractor and I have been trading goods and services for many years. Latest was me buying and installing a storm door for his wife and him delivering eleven yards of stone my current job site.
I keep track of everything and we are usually withing a few hundred dollars either way.
Eh...wot?

most definitely
traded for brass
traded for meat many times
traded chickens for stuff a couple times.
not exactly trading but I haven't purchased a garden hose in over a decade , people are generally tossing them out when all they need is a new end or a leak in the middle cut out.
one of my favorite quilted flannels wasn't a trade but it was missing a snap in the store , took it to the service counter said hey this one is missing a snap it is the last one in this size , it fits me , I would take it if you make the price right , 10 bucks and it was mine it started a 39 dollar flannel I have replaced a few snaps now I think they had the snap machine miss calibrated it was not flaring the way it should have more bending it over.
got some nice pants and sweaters that were missing a button or had a thread pulling out also . I bought a sack of BDU buttons wife puts the one for my suspenders , just add one for the fly and I am good to go.
