These ones have come out of a glacial kettle, where whirl-pools are on a river and rocks swirl in the current and make a deep kettle in a base rock.

The white one in the start of the thread is a Boccia ball but if it is ivory ( you will see small cracks and pin-holes in the material) you have something there.
Old snooker balls were ivory.

I use to have a friend that collected them. He would go to Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Indiana.... That is about all I know. There were some beautiful crystals inside some of them.

The other explanation and name i got previously on the forum fit more with what I have. They were formed by other minerals dissolving and dripping into the sandstone and then setting up hard or something to that effect. Some stones have small harder deposits sticking out of them that still have jagged edges. So the swirling around effect property isn't likely.

While stone cannon balls were used in some Revolutionary battles it could be, Stone game balls used by native Americans is widely debated over by archeologist it could be, or it could be a Chattahoochee river ball .( water filtration ball.) https://antiquitieswarehouse.com/products/8904 http://thepolohouse.blogspot.com/2011/10/chattahoochee-river-gems.html

I have found numerous items as such. Most are not perfectly round, but some are close to being so. These are called chert nodes, and I have found them in a rock quarry about 1 mile SW of Mt. Pleasant. After they blast, you can see them amongst the rubble and some still remaining in the walls of limestone. If you decide to break them, cover with a couple layers of towel, then hit them with a large hammer. Sometimes the chert is under high pressure, and fly apart. Chert can be used in place of flint, however it is not quite as hard, and if it has been blasted, it might not flake as well as flint. If yours is very close to round, I would leave it alone, and call whatever you want.

My guess is that it is a rock that has been rounded by many centuries of being beneath a glacier.

The one on the left would polish up fantastic, looks hard and that is what you want to get like glass. I would say they all have a lot of quartz and are real hard or they would have been crushed instead of getting round and smooth.

That is the inner core of a game ball. Made by native Americans. Used in games similar to chunky. Search it. Cool artifact. I only have 2 or 3 of those.

Seth, I used to find them in Wy all the time. There were several sandblows there that had them in all sizes. I have broke some open, and they appear to have some iron in the center. It amazed me hownear to perfectly round they were, especially the smaller sizes.
