With a big 'ol smile on my face, I enjoy my lady trapping wife, each time we are able to trap together. She picks the trap spot, I pound the stake to get her started, and by the time I walk nearby, pick my spot and get my set in, she's done at the same time. It's a slick system. We're setting a new ranch up and it was a bit chilly and wind from the north all day yesterday, so Donna had a couple extra layers on, but it did not slow her down.

Who else has the pleasure of trapping with a partner of the opposite gender who really loves trapping and you find yourself cheering for them to catch more than you do?

Blessings,
Mark

My wife and daughter just took their trapping course this fall after going with me when time allowed years past. My daughter was lucky enough to draw a otter tag and she just filled that on the 7th. My wife gets jealous when me and our daughter are out setting or scouting and she's stuck working, lol

I have that pleasure. She used cages while we were in Nevada and is now comfortable with the MB450 on our non-resident Utah line.

Great post Mark. My wife Laura ( age 74) (and don't tell her that I put that in) goes with me on my river line unless someone else wants to go along every check. It was 33 degrees with a brisk north wind yesterday and a good "chop" out on the Cumberland river but she just added a couple of layers. She has never set a trap but always goes with me. I tell folks the only reason she goes is to show the EMT's where the fat so-and-so sunk. (haha). Great company out on a raw day for sure.

My wife has become my Go-to ground trapper for groundhogs, coon, and skunks in my ADC business. Well, skunks she will make me pick them up after she catches them if she put the trap a little to far into the brush to get the tarp over. I seem that happens more when she is mad at me!!!! LOL When I went from workers to one-man show 5 or so years ago, she jumped in to help take some of the pressure off me. She sets the jobs up and runs them unless she needs my help then she askes for help.

My wife an I have been married for 49 plus years and she has gone along on my line for many years. When she started advising me what I was doing wrong I told her to get her fur takers license and do her own trapping. So at the age of 62 she did just that. She only traps in bobcat and fisher season. She got a fisher the first year they were open in our area of the state and has caught 4 bobcats in the last 6 years. We are only allowed 1 bobcat per year in PA. She has also caught numerous foxes, coons, coyotes and of course possums - lots of them. One year I called her the possum queen. We enjoy our time together on the trap line with our friendly competition. I'm blessed. We had a successful bobcat season this year. With her getting the first one, but I got the biggest.

The wife and I started trapping 30+ years ago, as a city girl she took to trapping, hunting and fishing like a duck to water. She always took her vacation from work in November so she could trap with me, which was something I surely enjoyed, even tho she dumped me out of the canoe a couple of times. LOL Being retired now she runs here own trap line, and it's become a contest, on who's a better trapper (It's her). She does her own skinning as well as most of mine, as I do the fleshing of the bigger and tougher critters, she does the mink, muskrat etc. She does most of the boarding, as she says I need glasses because the eyes are not centered as they should be. Would I have it any other way: NO
I can't think of any thing being any better, and cherish our time together.

I guess if she is someone that is reasonable and you can get along with it might be okay. I had an outdoorsy type girlfriend once and she was so competitive that it ruined pretty much every outing we had. If I killed a bigger deer than her or something like that she would get blood coming out of her crazy eyes mad.

My wife doesn't trap or hunt but she is happy for me when I get something good and everything is great. So when I hear someone say they wished they had a gf/wife that hunted/trapped I say just be careful what you wish for. It's not always as great as they imagine.

My wife used to hunt with me when we were younger and she still liked me. She doesn't like the cold now and would rather stay home. Now I don't hunt but take the kids since I have 2 young boys she will sit with one while I do the other during youth season and its warm. She was with my oldest boy the last 2 youth seasons he shot one.

I can't complain l dont have a nice place to skin so the day I dumped myself in the lake when I came home I was still chilled. She was taking my daughter to work but never said a thing when she came home to find me skinning a beaver in the kitchen on a fold out table or if I wash the blood ot of skins in the bath tub.

She didn't like it when I tried washing hides in the washing machine though. That's something for when/if I ever get my heater building built and my own dedicated machine for the purpose. That if I ever learn how to get things fleshed.

You are truly blessed with a wonderful wife Mark. Dont forget to post som pictures of her catches.

In Northern Ontario trapping is a Family affair.
Whole family goes to the cabins when they can to take part in the harvest and every other thing that goes with that.
It is a way of life here.
Everyone contributes.
