Would you put this coyote in to your lot of fur at an auction. Or just throw it in the garbage? This is the unfortunate result of the crazy darn warm weather we have been having. Dang near need to check snares everyday.

You can see the bald spot about the base of the tail that slipped. About 2 inches higher there is a little more of the guard hair slipping, but I quit messing with it to hopefully set a little more when it gets completely dry. No slippage anywhere else. Checked really good. Only guess as to why this area slipped is due to it being the part of it in direct contact with the earth and probably kept the warmest with how it died in the snare and brush.

You already did the work, If you are allowed multiple lots, break it out with any others that have defects. It still has value!

Your over thinking it.
The way they cut strips for hoods that damage is one strip out of the 15-18 they get from one like that.

Yes it will drop your average, but it's still a $40 to $50 coyote, pays for some gas,i sold mine last week and had at least 5 that were eastern dark brilo pad coyotes knocked my average down to $62,$35 was low $90 was high i was happy with the price's.Not the $92 average from last year, prices and grade's are tougher this year and i had a better run of yotes last year as well.

Asking trappers if damaged/slipping fur is worth anything, is like asking your dog if he wants something to eat. "OF COURSE,YES", he's not gonna say " just a little".

Definitely take it to the auction. It will probably grade damage but still plenty of useable fur there.

How many coyotes do you have? What do the rest of them look like? If you’ve got an overall really nice lot of coyotes, I would throw it in with the rest and not worry about it. One bad coyote in a group of 100 or so, isn’t going to hurt the overall average and will most likely be overlooked by the buyer. I’m not saying the buyer won’t see the problem but he will ignore it because of the other 99 that are really nice.

Now, if you have say only 12 coyotes and that is one of them. Different matter - it will stick out like a sore them.

Good Luck. Hope you do well at the sale.

Without a doubt I’d be taking that.

I had a marten that a fisher had eaten from just above the front shoulders that I sold along with my other marten. It was one of the few fur auctions I have ever been to.Sold right along with the rest and didn't loose anything.

Yeah this one made #14. So it's going to stand out.

How are you with a needle and thread ? I'd cut out the bad spot in a football shape and stitch it up maybe it'll help maybe not but if it does the effort maybe worth some extra money in your pocket .

If you have another couple of coyotes that are iffy, you could put the iffy ones in one lot and the good ones in another. If that is allowed at your sale. Otherwise, leave it with the other 13 and see what happens. Worse thing you can do is lot it by itself.

I let it dry to much to sew it back. Never even knew this spot existed till after I flipped it and was combing it. Noticed a few guard hairs coming loose, so I pulled a little to investigate and a big chunk came out.

The coyote in the field was a little bloated, minimal green belly and I pulled hard in the crotch/stomach and the back of the neck before skinning. Nothing came out so I thought I was good.

I'll bet that is still a 50.00+$ coyote.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.
