Pulled the fur out of the freezers. Majority of these were caught during the old vacation for the year. We had about 10-12 days of fun.

I’ve considered trying to get to 20 cats. There’s a few locations close to home I haven’t trapped yet. The 14 I’ve caught so far came off 11 different properties. They seemed to be in places I’ve never caught them before which is a great problem to have. I imagine there’s at least 1-2 more cats on all those properties maybe more. I even had to let a couple go before the season came in. I have a stretch at the end of the month I might put a couple dozen more out to try.

Ran into some mange early but for the most part the coyotes really looked pretty good. Can’t say I have much of anything to complain about this year. Keeping a few cats back to tan. I’ve never kept any fur but I figured why not. I’ve been looking pretty hard at getting into the thermal game.

Always hate this time of year loading up the truck and watching it go. I guess it’s time though!

There’s three carcass fox I found in a freezer from last year. I let all but one go this year due to his feet. He’s a pretty red still in freezer probably getting tanned. I’m not expecting a whole lot but we shall see! I believe the total counts on coyotes was 42 off the trapping grounds. Had a number of them with mange that didn’t make the ride.

Nice catch congrats !!

I can never understand a serious fur harvester never getting a thermal unit, the cost is paid for by the harvest many times over even with low prices.

If it were I living in an area where there were no fur limits I'd have had one many years ago and then just updated a to a new model a couple years back !! Tech and cost moves fast now days on these units !

Possum yes I’m going to go visit Kevin. He’s done well for me the last four years. Enough to keep me happy.

Forrest no, the return on effort isn’t worth it for me. I only skin them because I conserve freezer space that way. My time is better spent working. I can make a lot more money working in my career than I ever could finishing coyotes. I take a paid vacation every year and what I make is what I make. I don’t really intend to make much of any profit when I trap at this point.

Grit I honestly have overlooked the thermals for a few years. Had a guy come in behind me this year and was killing bobcats where I’d been. He’s been going every night and when he told me he watches field mice bounce around I got interested. It’ll be a new adventure.

Rick you’re right! I looked back at my pay statements since March of last year and I averaged 108 hours of work every two weeks since March of last year. Vacation was a much needed break from Covid but I’ve jumped right back into it. I have 60 hours scheduled for this week again.

Left lane that last one was the best so far. The night I called it quits and was pulling he was waiting about 2 a.m. I’d like to catch a truckload of them just like him!
