What is going on with the ammo? I’m hearing there is no supply and plenty of demand. This is worst than last time IMO.

Do a search, it's a topic every couple days. It's explained pretty well in most of those threads.

Millions of new gun owners and no new factories to make more. Remington is offline and will be for awhile yet.

welcome back from under your rock

2020 update ,
election year
very anti gun candidate
covid
riots
American cities burning
911 calls people hear sorry your on your own maybe a report tomorrow
7 million new first time gun owners
hunting season millions of people crawled out from their rock to no ammo and bare shelves at gun store
serious concerns about election tampering
very anti gun candidate declared winner

2021
well it hasn't gotten any better
the trump rally turned mostly peacfull demonstration at teh capitol building has a Lot of people foaming at the mouth for less than the summer riots did , but they don't like it too close home and it is ok when it is their people doing it

you can't even find musket caps or #11 caps

now that your up to date supply is being made as fast as it can
even if people stopped buying today , it would take ammo manufactures till July to catch up

buy what you can , don't shoot what you don't have too

save it , it's going to be a while.

The sales of long knives, swords, battle axes, spears, maces, machetes and various hand to hand weapons should be skyrocketing soon.

Knives will probably become restricted to sell, like they are in London and parts of the EU.

I heard about the demand side under my rock. What about the supply side? Drifter why is Remington offline? I was told by a preferred buyer that they haven’t received any ammo from 9 suppliers in weeks. They didn’t know why other than COVID excuse.

I thought it was PSA who was moving towards purchasing Remington's ammo assets.

It looks like Vista purchased the ammo business from Remington.

My question is how many of the current gun owners went from the "buy ammo off the shelf" to the reloading group? I thought I would get ahead of the chaos a year ago and buy some more reloading components. Nope. No primers anywhere. For a year. The demand is unending, it seems.

This is all speculation on my part, but it bears a little consideration...

You can't produce ammo if there isn't any powder to put in cartridges. Most of the powder we use is imported... I believe a lot of it comes from Australia... and they've been locked down for a while.

And a lot of the major ammo manufacturers have contracts to make ammo for the military and Uncle Sam gets priority. So if you're short on powder then most of what you make will probably go to the government and the civilian market will get shorted.

Having said all that...

I went to Tulsa Thursday to buy powder... One of the places I buy from said they are getting 3000 lbs. of powder a week and they can't keep it on the shelves... So tin foil hat aside... Supply is not keeping up with demand.

So is it excess demand? Or is supply being bottlenecked?

I think it's both.

Mike

Remington went bankrupt and was divided and sold in pieces.

the distributors are sold out with backorders to many dealers . pre election a little came in here and there.

there have been videos by several of the manufactures explaining that they are making every round they can safely make more than any other time in history and just can not keep up

most people probably average less than 100 rounds a year purchased

some of use were higher

when 50 million people are seeing bare shelfs they need every round they can get their hands on.

it is even reloading supplies .molds , lead melting pots , yes spears , swords ,you name it Midway usa lists 69 sword products 15 are currenlly in stock , 5 of those 15 are rubber training replicas basically what is left is calvary sabers and 350+ dollar swords.

lots of things are in short supply right now if you want a non stock door from Lowes right now you are looking at a 2-3 month wait possibly longer depending on what plant it is coming out of.
plywood is doubled in price and stores are restricting how many sheets you can order at a time.
it is beyond just guns and ammo but guns and ammo are the hardest to find.

Also a large powder plant in OZ burned to the ground a few years ago.

3K pounds of powder a week

roughly figuring at 6gr for 9mm that could be 3.5 million rounds
25gr in 223 840K rounds
43gr in 308 488K rounds
50gr in 30-06 420K rounds

even rough figuring pistol and rifle say it is 1 to 1.5 million rounds that is a week for one place

when where all done with this we will be looking at more guns and ammo in US houses than any point ever before in history.
