I've been hunting large pistol primers. There are some in Canada but they won't ship to the US!

You can't produce ammo if there isn't any powder to put in cartridges. Most of the powder we use is imported... I believe a lot of it comes from Australia... and they've been locked down for a while.

And a lot of the major ammo manufacturers have contracts to make ammo for the military and Uncle Sam gets priority. So if you're short on powder then most of what you make will probably go to the government and the civilian market will get shorted.

Having said all that...

I went to Tulsa Thursday to buy powder... One of the places I buy from said they are getting 3000 lbs. of powder a week and they can't keep it on the shelves... So tin foil hat aside... Supply is not keeping up with demand.

So is it excess demand? Or is supply being bottlenecked?

I think it's both.

Mike

3K pounds of powder a week

roughly figuring at 6gr for 9mm that could be 3.5 million rounds
25gr in 223 840K rounds
43gr in 308 488K rounds
50gr in 30-06 420K rounds

even rough figuring pistol and rifle say it is 1 to 1.5 million rounds that is a week for one place

when where all done with this we will be looking at more guns and ammo in US houses than any point ever before in history.

Comforting numbers Pete... If that powder is indeed being used and not being placed on Gunbroker or similar sites and sold at outrageous markups.

Primers are to be found if you beat the bush and live near major retailers like cabela's or Scheels. Dome days are different.

Today I picked up 400 small rifle cci at a Scheels locale. Yesterday I got 200 small rifle magnum at cabela's

The Scheels I was at today surprised me in that the had somewhat of a selection of different loaded calibers. I think I'll stop in the morning and get another 400

well I figure if it isn't used right away and even if people profit on it some it takes money from people willing to pay it so they can't buy up even more and it puts it eventually into the hands of someone who will load it.

even if it goes into some guys safe for 20 years it is likely to resurface and be used , never know 20 years from now in 2041 I might get a deal on it at a yard sale when he has kicked the bucket and his wife is selling it for what he told her he paid for it 20 dollars a pound and 25 dollars a brick of primers.

it stinks I am not shooting much because I can't replace what I shoot but the silver lining is it is putting billions of rounds into private ownership.

Don't hate on me guys, but today at lunch break I ran into Walmart for furnace filters. Cruised through Sporting goods and the empty ammo case was empty as it has been for weeks. Stock cart sitting there with several cases of shotgun ammo and 1 case of Winchester, 333 round boxes of .22 LR hollow points. I got out to the truck and realized I forgot furnace filters.

At Bass Pro in Springfield Mo no rifle, pistol or rimfire ammo in the store, they did have some of the more expensive waterfowl and turkey loads. No reloading supplies.

I have been able to find anything I want with no price gouging. Just not in large amounts or every time I want some. I wouldn't be able to look myself in the eye if I put anything on gun broker. I think the guys bidding that stuff up just sit in their bunker and shop online. Face to face friends and acquittances is a good way to find stuff. If you got a minute and your near a store that sells ammo powder or whatever stop in and see what they got.

#1 thing is don't buy at those inflated prices. Its gotten crazee

Nice!
I got 400 CCI stingers...and 600 CCI target.

@ the gun show over the weekend I saw a few boxes of rifle primers sell for $150 per 1000.

I gave a friend of my wife a box of 50 22 rat shot cartridges. She is scared to death of snakes. The other day she brought me a hundred rounds aguila 40 grain long rifles. No clue where she got it. Wouldn't tell me what she paid. I hope it wasn't a whole bunch.

Stopped at a Wal-Mart today and bought 2 boxes of .308 for $17 a piece and a box of Federal #5 Upland 12 gauge for $8. Stopped at the local gun shop and had all kinds of ammo on the shelf plus several AR's in stock.

Got some 357 bird shot the other day, haven't seen those for years and only had 1 round left.
