I have a Remington 870 Wingmaster 3" with a 30" or 31" barrel that was my only shotgun the last 15 years or so until I bought a Stevens 555 O/U this spring. Since getting the 555, the only thing I would use the 870 for is waterfowl, and I haven't been happy with it for that the handful of times I used it this fall. If I did sell, I'd put the money towards a semi-auto.

I've never sold a gun before, but I would really rather have something I'd use. I figured I could probably get a premium for it now, but maybe not because its just a pump shotgun.

What do y'all think? Think I could get $500-$600 for that gun in good used condition? It's not threaded for choke tubes is the only negative.

I bet 5 but whatever you buy to replace it will be high. How bad do you need 500 bucks?

I would suggest hanging onto it and saving up for another gun. In these times it is tough to predict how tough things may get in the gun world. I have a lot of them and do not plan on selling a single one in the future.

Another option would be to buy a different barrel for the 870. I have several for the bunch of 870's I have. I prefer the 26" with the screw-in chokes. That, on an 870 makes for a very dependable duck-killing machine and would be a great back-up gun for almost anything you hunt.

As for a semi auto I love my Remington v3 that shots 3 inch shells on down.

Moosetrot, I thought about getting another barrel for it before I got the 555, but I wasn't happy with how it performed with 3" duck shells this fall. Seemed like every time I went out I had at least 1 failure to eject, possibly because I short stroked it, but even if thats the case, it wouldn't be an issue with a semi.

Danny, if you were going to buy another gun and had $500 in your gun safe you didn't have tagged for something, would you use it? I don't have a ton of expendable income but don't mind investing in something I know I'll use.

tiguy sometimes i just write without thinking. I like guns and dont remember the last time i sold one. have gifted several to grandkids. if you want an auto by all means buy one. Your 870 will sell quick im thinking. might could just trade it at your local gun store. 870 is real popular. barrels are everywhere.

My current duck gun is a Stoeger M3000. I have used and abused it, covered in mud and ice, and it has never, ever failed me. While I have quite few 870's to use, the Stoeger has been my go-to gun since I bought it around 4 years ago. They are relatively inexpensive and the mechanism is quite close to the Benelli's. With the performance the Stoeger has given me, I really do not have the need nor see the sense in spending over 1K for a fun.

I don’t own any guns, but, if owned any guns, I doubt I would sell one. But that is me. You gotta do what you think is best. If you can make enough to cover what you want in a new one that is more useful to you, that may be best.

You can pick up the Stoeger M3000 for less than $600.

Trapdog1 I like the way you think. I wish that was in the cards. I haven't even looked at whats out there for semi's, maybe that should be my first step. I don't expect guns to be any more available anytime soon.
