I haven't jumped on the 6.5 CM bandwagon yet... Mainly because I'm a 30 caliber guy... And I like decades of proven performance.
The only thing that might steer me to one of the new "boutique" chamberings is powder consumption... Does the 6.5 eat less powder to perform similar to the .270?
Mike Cough But 6.5x55 cough cough I hear ya Wolfie. LOL Mike

Thousands of deer have been harvested with such calibers as 30-30, 32 special, 30 -06 , 270, 25 -06 , 243 , 6 mm, and many others. NEWS Flash - it is not the gun, it is the person using it .

Negligible difference between them for killing deer at a reasonable distance. I like shooting the 6.5 better because it has very little recoil. Can’t go wrong with the 270 though.

I'm a long time .270 Winchester fan but then I really enjoy the .25-06 and really like the .284 Winchester even better just to add my .02¢ worth . There's nothing wrong with the 6.5 Creedmore I've just not felt the need for one myself yet but it's a personal choice if you want one & have the extra cash get it , it's a easy thing to get caught up in the feel good buying craze or keeping up with the Jones's ha ha Allan

On paper, given similar weights, the 6.5 mm bullet has a higher sectional density than the 270 which is supposed to improve penetration. In the real world (on game) I’m not sure the difference is measurable.

Thanks I just looked up ballistics and couldn’t see what all the fuss is about? Other than short action in 6.5 the 270 seemed flatter Plus before this Covid crap 270 shells were cheap and every where online they both have about zero ammo but your a lot more likely to find a couple boxes of 270 on a gas station, hardware store , or bait shop shelf still there from the past. the two are about dead even at a half mile 880 yards for energy and velocity then 6.5 pulls ahead or rather doesn't slow down as fast. however 270 is still flatter because it was loosing less altitude until a half mile the thing is your not generally hunting at a half mile. I was thinking the same thing as your last sentence. Not many hunters capable of taking a killing shot at 880 yards. For most 300 yards is about max.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.
