Thousands of deer have been harvested with such calibers as 30-30, 32 special, 30 -06 , 270, 25 -06 , 243 , 6 mm, and many others.
NEWS Flash - it is not the gun, it is the person using it .

Why not the .260 then?

Negligible difference between them for killing deer at a reasonable distance. I like shooting the 6.5 better because it has very little recoil. Can’t go wrong with the 270 though.

I'm a long time .270 Winchester fan but then I really enjoy the .25-06 and really like the .284 Winchester even better just to add my .02¢ worth .
There's nothing wrong with the 6.5 Creedmore I've just not felt the need for one myself yet but it's a personal choice if you want one & have the extra cash get it , it's a easy thing to get caught up in the feel good buying craze or keeping up with the Jones's ha ha

On paper, given similar weights, the 6.5 mm bullet has a higher sectional density than the 270 which is supposed to improve penetration. In the real world (on game) I’m not sure the difference is measurable.

Well since my 270 shoots both sides I’m not worried about penetration
I’ll just pass on the 6.5

online they both have about zero ammo but your a lot more likely to find a couple boxes of 270 on a gas station, hardware store , or bait shop shelf still there from the past.

the two are about dead even at a half mile 880 yards for energy and velocity then 6.5 pulls ahead or rather doesn't slow down as fast.

however 270 is still flatter because it was loosing less altitude until a half mile

the thing is your not generally hunting at a half mile.

I was thinking the same thing as your last sentence. Not many hunters capable of taking a killing shot at 880 yards. For most 300 yards is about max.

I thought I was the last hunter not to yet own a 6.5. I have a 243:and a 25-06 (smaller bullet but faster) and a 270, 280, 7-08, 7 mag, 30-06 and 300wsm, which are larger. I just don’t feel my closet needs a 6.5. I only hunt whitetails. The wsm was for an elk trip.

Am I missing something? I don’t have any tactical gear either. I must be boring or practical. Just asking?

I have said it before but the 6.5 Creedmoore is the man bun of the shooting world. Its a writerlings wet dream and does nothing or less than way older established calibers. Then ya hear people rave about how a short action is so much stiffer and accurate... then look at their 200 dollar rifle they bought where the action s thinner and more floppy than the tupperware stock is is slapped into. Its good for a giggle at times. A big upside for me having my own range is not to have to listen to some pimple face that he shoots a creed moore. grin
