After many years of bouncing back and forth between Michigan and Alaska the wife and I are making the move permanently this spring. We are looking for some good reads about the great land. Anyone have ideas of books with a woman's point of view the wife just finished The final frontiersman and is reading Follow me to Alaska. Any ideas are greatly appreciated

Love this book. Setup like short stories. Pick it up and put it down as you feel like it. Great reading.

Alaska's Wolf Man is my all time favorite but for a woman's perspective.... here is a few you will both like.

Shadows on the Koyukuk, by Sidney Huntington
Alaska's Homesteaders, by Martha Markey
Arctic Homestead, by Norma Cobb and Charles W. Sasser

The Wilderness of Denali, by Sheldon.

Excellent read !! Out of print but you can still download an electronic copy

Another lighter read, and more contemporary is:

Pappa Was a Bush Pilot...by Sally McMahan Pollen

Also several books by Connie Helmricks. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=connie++helmricks%2C+books

Wager With The Wind...Don Sheldon Story. James M Greiner previous Alaska Trappers Association magazine editor until his death.
Great read.

The best part of the book is the account of rescuing members of a military exploratory team in a river boat that had capsized in the canyon of the Susitna River with his skills in a float plane!

I second Trapline Twins and the sequel, Riding the Wild Side of Denali, by Miki and Julie Collins. Great books written by two women who made their living trapping.

If you're into an Alaskan hunting novel, check out "The Last Hunt".

Both "Alaska Wolf Man" and "Bush Rat Governor" were fantastic.

“Winds of skilak” is a woman’s perspective of moving to an island on a skilak lake with her husband. Not as good as the previously listed books but my wife liked it.

Alaska Women Write is a collection edited by Dana Stabenow that my wife enjoyed. Goodbye Boise, Hello Alaska by Cora Holmes is the story of her family's move to a ranch on Umnak Island in the Aleutians. She may also enjoy Kachemak Bay Years by Elsa Pedersen.

North of the Sun by Fred Hatfield is one of my favorites. Another good one is Alaska Game Trails with a Master Guide, this is about Hal Waugh, by Charles Keim.

I also really like Russell Anabel's writings.

You mentioned Last of the Great Brown Bear Men. It is about Pinnell and Talifson by Marvin Clark. He did a second book also, Track of the Kodiak.

Northwest of the World, by Olaf Swenson. You can find it used on Abe books. Was printed in the '40s, it should be in everyone's collection. About a Fur buyer from Seattle in northeast coastal Siberia and Alaska. He and Irwin Goldberg's dad were friends. Any trappers who have been around for a while in the NW and Alaska know Goldberg.
I know the epilogue to the book, Irwin told me about it. I'll only tell you after you read the book though.
