Got asked to trap a farm for coyotes. Landowner told me there's an active coyote den on the farm. Your thoughts on how close to the den I can set traps without running the coyotes away to somewhere else?

I doubt If It's active at this time of the year. But If It's a coyote den they will be back and will investigate It every time they are In the area. It's a perfect place to make at least 2 or 3 sets. Set right at the den site.

I thought they only used dens when raising pups in the spring. I could be wrong.

I haven't checked the den yet. I start trapping there Monday. I'm only going by what the farmer told me about the den being active.
I just didn't want to chance running coyotes away by being too close. Do coyotes only use dens when raising pups?

A lot of folks think coyotes and fox "live" in dens year round, but they're just for pup rearing.

Thanks M.Magis, I wasn't aware of that. I won't have to be too concerned chasing any away then.
