I wonder if the measurement should be taken from the widest part of the trap, which would be the corner grooves. Either way the Duke is over but I wonder on another brand that’s close if the corners would put you over. Also not sure of the meaning of “as originally manufactured”. Does that mean even if you modified the trap, since it was originally manufactured over 8” it would not be legal. Or is it implying modification from original manufacturing could make it legal. Probably have to check the actual wording of the law. I think if you measure them where the arrows show in the DNR booklet you're ok. There are no brands of 280's when measured there, and the traps are stock from the factory, that are 8" or less. It means you can't modify them, by adding a longer dog for example so they aren't open as wide when set, to make them legal. You could modify a 220 to be exactly 8" and as wide as you want though.
