You could put #3 music wire coils on em. I wouldnt go any bigger than that. You would need setters then for sure amd it would hold a grizzly.

I PUT NUMBER #3 BRIDGER COLS ON THEM BECUASE THEY HAVE THE L SHAPPED LEVER ON THE LONGER AREM. THEY ARE INSTALLED INVERTED OR BACKWARDS SO THAT LONGER LEVER IS RAN UNBER THE CROSS FRAM AND THE SHORT ARM GOES ON THE TRAP LEVER, THAN I BEND THE L SHAPE BACK OVER THE TRAP FRAM CROSS FRAM SO IT CANT COME OFF. THEN I WELD 1/4 INCH SQUARE STOCK ON THE JAWS. ONLY ONE PULL OUT ON ABOUT A 50# BEAVER BACK FOOT CATCH. I RUN 10 FT CHAIN ON ALL MY TRAPS. SO

You guys who 4 coiled these- have you had to re-enforce the frame to keep the extra torque from twisting it up?

I don't normally comment on others mods for their steel, but having used the Ts-85 for beaver, which is what it was intended for,I don't know why you'd want to 4 coil it.A properly caught beaver is not going to get out with factory springs.Maybe a need for it if you're trying to make a wolf trap out of it.

Why are you thinking about 4 coiling them?
I tried those TS-85 traps and i had more sprung and empty traps then any other beaver trap. And I've heard the same from other trappers that used that trap.

Not the case. We had them empty at the end of the drowners more than once. There was a video on here once of a beaver getting caught in one high on the back ankle but the trap was empty when they checked it. If you look at the catch pictures of beavers in TS85's you'll often see where they were caught higher but the trap slipped down the foot, sometimes all the way to the toes. 4 coiling IMO is a good idea.
