Getting my left eye done next month. What can I expect? Painful or do they knock you out?

My 76 year old father had it done early last fall. He had a hard time picking up a blood trail before surgery. Now he has no problem finding the blood trail.

I know a couple folks who have had it done, and are very glad they did. Neither mentioned pain or recovery time.

my cousin had both eyes done this year , he said who's old hands are these when he looked at his hands for the first time , make you wonder how much else he was missing

my dad has had both done , they numb you some how he said it didn't hurt

they say you should be more careful afterwards and wear safety glasses when hunting a twig in the eye could always mess things up but worse once they have worked on your eyes.

My wife had one eye done a few years ago.last year the lens slipped down in that eye. They redid that eye and also removed the cataract from her other eye.
She had very little pain and now doesn't need her prescription glasses. She does use readers for reading, and that's all. She is very happy with the results. So if she is happy--so am I.

I was a total basket case when they did my right eye. Semi out was NOT enough for me, with a lifetime phobia of eyes (touching or anywhere near them). I had a panic attack.
Left eye was like: "we're gonna look.....you're all done. A mere second from out to done it seemed. Doc said he gave me enough meds to knock out a horse.
Same thing when my left retina detached a couple years later. So scared I was shaking and couldn't talk. "I'm just going to look.....done". An hour of my life I was happy to not be awake for.
Results - FANTASTIC.

Thanks for the info. I had uveitis in my left eye last year that was probably linked to the RA I was diagnosed with later. That really messed up my vision and made the cataract worse in that eye. Be good to get it fixed. Im gun shy when it comes to operations too Brian, I had a prostrate biopsy last winter and I can tell ya that aint for the faint of heart! I got nothing for the pain, and im not kidding it was brutal.

Oh yah I can see and colors popped right after done and the protective cover was removed. The nurse puts stuff in my eye to take the pain away and away the doctor went. The worst part is the time leading up to the surgery, (mind monsters)...LOL I had my right eye done and need the left done. After the right ws done I had a test and my left eye improved.

BTW I was awake the whole time.

I had the surgery about 4 years ago. It wasn’t cataract surgery but they did remove the lens and put in a implant. They will knock you out to numb your eye. You’ll come to after a little bit and they rolled me back. I remember the dr. rolling the machine over so he could look through it and that’s all I remember. I remember waking up when he was almost done and it looked like drops of water going in my eye. I had my wife drive me home we stopped and ate and when I got home I slept the rest of the day. I wish I had it fixed earlier in my life. I went from 20/80 in my left eye with glasses to 20/30 without and 20/25 with.

I had both eyes done in the summer of 2019. No pain, each surgery lasted about 8-10 minutes. Your eye is totally numbed. I wore contact lens for 20 years....no longer need them as they replace the lens of your eye that is fogged with cataracts with a new synthetic vision correcting lens. Not having to wear contacts or glasses is wonderful.

It took about a month before my brain caught up with my eyes after the surgery. Halos around lights....that went away. Still need to wear reading glasses.

I helped my cousin this November and December getting both eyes done. No pain. Just a little dull ache a day or so later.

He is 80 years old. He had Glaucoma and it was at a point he couldn't drive safely. Good to go now.

Get yourself two pair of quality sunglasses. Keep one as a spare in case you can’t find the first. Most of us are more sensitive to light following cataract surgery. I don’t go many where with sunglasses now.

My surgery was about three years ago.

TRUTH! I had both eyes done about 16 years ago. Watched a video prior....Big mistake. Easy peasy though. I had polarized lenses put in.
