I have one eye that is soon going to need a surgery. The biggest problem , is it affects my shooting. Have used a peep site, now I can't pick it up right. Also don't feel safe driving at night. Optomitrest says it is not bad enough yet. Looking forward to being , dead eye dick again. old243

If you take the prostrate drug Flomax, tell the surgeon. You eyes will not dilate when on this drug. Not a problem but he will not be able to use the laser. Saved me $250 per eye.

No wallet card.

Be aware that the ophthalmologist will measure your eyes in the initial exam and decide what lens to implant. In my case I found out after they did my bad cataract eye first that it had a stigmatism. I did not get my distance sight back in that eye (not exactly bad as it turned out). Dr. said it's not an exact science. He made a correction when the second eye was done and no problem with distance.

So now, without contacts that some people use to be able to see near and far I can do that with NO glasses. Dr. told me if I ever need an adjustment in my reading eye it could be corrected with Lasik surgery.

At least here, before surgery they prep with an IV in the arm and the anesthesiologist adjusts the "cocktail" to keep you just awake. They don't want you going to sleep and closing your eyes.

Surgery time is short, you will be able to see immediately in the recovery room. They will have you put 2 types of drops in each eye twice a day for 30 days.

I scheduled mine 2 months apart (this was 3 years ago), but some people have it done 2 weeks apart if they need both eyes done.

On a side note: when I told the Dr I had one bad eye and one good eye, he commented that I would find out after they did my bad eye first that my good eye wasn't as good as I thought it was. HE WAS RIGHT.

Thanks good info. I dont take any drugs of any kind luckily. They said my right eye doesnt need the cataract surgery yet. I have been on a waiting list for the left eye for over a year now. They actually called me from the operating room yesterday to see if I was available for the 3rd so someone must have canceled. My eye doctor figured I wouldnt get in until next summer so I got lucky. I shoot lefthanded so hopefully this will help with open sights, because thats what I prefer.

I was 74 when I had both eyes done, two weeks apart, last summer. Piece of cake IMO and great results.

For more info, read my thread "Cataracts Anyone" in the Health forum.

I got one that had all the implant specifications on it. I gave a copy to my regular eye dr and then put it up for safe keeping.

I have a card for each eye but do not carry them. Put them up for safe keeping. My regular eye doctor did not need them either.

Interesting, I had 13 mm yellow tinted polarized implants in both eyes at 40 years old. I was told by eye Dr. I must have had diabetes as he never seen eyes so bad at such a young age. I just had a physical a week prior. I complained to primary care Dr. about eyes, that is how I ended up at the eye Dr. Went back to primary to have sugar retested, and no sign of diabetes. Going back to eye Dr. for measurements was told then, that I had injury induced scarring and damage that showed during measurement process. That made sense, as I have had chemicals, metal, dust, welders flash and what not over the years, enough to require a couple ER visits. Today I am the safety glasses wearing guy, never too late. Hindsight is 2020....pun intended. Protect your eyes everyone.

Seems I remember Dr. saying something about field sobriety tests? Heck its been so long. I cannot remember. Do police even look at your eyes anymore if pulled over. 2005 or 2006 is a while ago, That's when mine were done. I was driving 100 miles 1 way to work and on coming head lights were blinding me. Always seemed to be looking through a fog.

Well hopefully they get mine right. I heard of one lady that lives near me that got the wrong lenses and now has to wear corrective glasses.

When mine were done no doctor told me to usually wear sunglasses when outside, so I assumed that was not really necessary.

You know there are 3 parts to the word "assume".

So far I have only lost one eye to macula degeneration.
