I was glued to the tv that night. When the chute opened I was on the edge of my chair, when he got behind the bull I was screamin for him to catch up, scared my kids half to death, when he rode the extra time I was jumpin around like an idiot, then fell apart and had to walk outside.
To this day I don't know why I wanted Tuff to win so bad. I knew he rode all year for Lane, but it was more than that. He was determined to win no matter what. I wanted him to win for him.

I have seen some amazing things in rough stock, guys like Tuff Hedamen, Terry Don West, and JB Mauney did things no one else could have done, over and over again. Billy Etbaur and about anyone named Wright from Utah same thing.
But my buddy 6 Gold Buckles (his online username) let a calf run thru his loop, broke his leg on the dismount, got up, cut the rope free, and tied his calf down. It was basically a pea on you Fred Whitfield just like Tuffs ride was a hats of to Frost. Heck just watching Cody do super human feats night after night to stay ahead of Fred was well worth staying up for.

A few years back Cody had to go thru a rough divorce and we were all worried about him. He was basically the greatest dad ever and was not sure he could get much custody or visitation so he took it bad.
It wasn't long after Gilbert Carillo's wife died of cancer (Julie was an angle among us type) and they are all basically neighbors (Hico is just south of Stephenville). Anyway, a couple years later somone up there at a cowboy church posted a video of Cody Ohl getting baptized by Stran Smith. I had to remind myself that God is good.
I guarantee the toughest bull riders and bull doggers in the world would all say the same thing- Cody Ohl might be a the toughest man we ever met. Fact

Yep....that is as tough s it gets. I have no where near as much time around rodeos as some of you guys, but I have seen enough to know those cowboys are some tough dudes.
I always laugh when I think of that young pup that charged Nolan Ryan on the mound. I was like, what was he thinking, the man bulldogs steers for fun.
I have been around and known racers that are as tough as anyone. Crash, break bones, get patched just enough to get back in the car. Worry about getting "fixed" later. A friend of mine, Tommy Scott, crashed real bad one year at Knoxville in a Sprint car. The following week he was back at our local track with a new car ready to go. I asked how he felt, his answer was, " I feel fine, but I can't see right. Those little dirt clods out there look to be the size of boulders." I told him he shouldn't be driving then. He about got mad at me for saying it. He won the feature that night.
I always wonder what makes these type folks who they are. I have known some tough folks, in several different different walks of life. They all amaze me. They just don't seem to know how to stop. Some folks call them hard headed. I call them determined. I often wish I was more like some of them.

The 2004 Red Sox vs Yankees ALCS....Yanks were up 3 games to 0....The Red Sox then won 4 straight games to advance and Win the World Series for the first time in 86 years.
