Well sat down and weighted out 177 of the powder coated ones on my RCBS chargemaster light. Figured I'd sort them in .5grain lots before gas checking. Ended up with this
[Linked Image]
Seems like I'm dropping between 1.0gr-1.5gr on average which I guess for what I'm doing isn't the worst thing in the world . It might just be how I'm powder coating but after sorting 177 powder coated ones I wasn't feeling like doing another 150-200 regular ones lol whistle
Also did a bhn test because I was curious. With my Lee BHN tester my none power coatd bullet wa around 15BHN (this was poured then dropped in a pail of water) my powder coated ones how ever where around 20-21BHN (there's where poured water dropped dryer then baked with the powder coat at around 350-375 the water dropped again). According to the chart it should give me a working pressure of around 25,000 I'll n the top side. With the copper gas checks I'm thinking I'll be able to get a cool 2100fps without too many problems. Anyhow still clucking along with the video series I'll post this video sometime next week smile

I would think they would need to recure after powder coating but I have no idea about that.

Really impressed with these casting threads and looking forward to seeing these on paper.

Nice looking bullets. I've never cast for anything under 375 caliber but in my opinion cast bullets are the answer for the 444 Marlin and the 45/70. Powder coating makes things so much easier and adds diameter that can help accuracy. I've taken grizzly with cast in the 444, and they just flat work. I know a guy in Africa that uses cast bullets in his 30 caliber for all his hunting over there and he likes a softer bullet than I use. He says they work fantastic.

I have never shot them in anything except pistol and blackpowder. Oh yeah and my 12gauge. Low velocity stuff. Never fooled with gas seals or paint. The velocity gains are there but not Imo that significant. If i want fast i buy copper jacketed. Can still get a thousand 224 on gunbroker for under 200. For time cost and lost velocity of cast I never saw a reason

My dad has been making his own .223 bullets for some time. He made a tool to punch out aluminum gas checks. He says, the aluminum beer bottles are the perfect thickness for making gas checks.
