In my book.
We plan so many things on the trap line, efficiency becomes Job #1.
For instance,
We pull most sets in this area for coyotes to outside the circle. Keep catching and move downwind each time you make a catch.

While a partner is catching fur, and if we do leave their set in as a remake, we make sure to get a fresh set in near it.

We trap more than we skin so skinning is planned depending on the situation. Here in South Texas, I usually place bobcats in walk-in coolers and every 3 days I skin them as a batch.
2 out of 3 days I extend the line or whatever is needed and 1 in 3 days I skin late into the evening. It's too hard to do each night. You'll burn out.

If buggies weren't already so expensive, we'd get a bigger one, but as it is we need the bed extender that we use.

My middle name is "efficiency."
It's the way to stack 'em up.

Blessings,
Mark

Oh for the days when the cats from this area were about $125 straight through. 14 in this 3 day pile and we have 27 in 7 checks on this ranch so far.

I really don't know because buyers are struggling this year. I'll probably hold my cats over and see how the markets shape up next year. I will have a load of effort in cats this year, so I prefer to not give them away.

Gotta love the Texas brush county. Wish we had the pop density here, just not the habitat.
If cats were as thick up here as down there. I would be doing something trapping related 340 days a year.
I remember an Arizona cat trapper that was grossing 65k in the late 70s
M. Hershburg I believe was his name. Course that state is fouled up now based on the regs I had the AZG&F
send me few years back. IE foot holds on private only.

The Texas country is a load of fun but it's also work, work, work. A different set of conditions than any other of the 17 different states I've been blessed to trap. We tend about 1 in 4 traps every day because the rats work 'em over. Move turds. Steal turds. Dig bait (can not use any beaver meat bait - they LOVE to muck in it). Scatter bait. Kara kara eagles dig out dirt holes and punch sets. Dig out around bone sets. Pigs are a mess. Resident deer and exotics are forever pawing at every thing. 5% of traps snapped very day from deer and exotics.

If you want to practice resetting traps in spots you've set up already, South Texas is bar none, the place to be.
We have 164 traps out right now and I promise you I'll have to reset and rework 30-40 of them today because they were messed with by all sorts of things not related to coyotes and bobcats. Tiss the price of admission!

Blessings,
Mark

I would think the cats would get green belly even in a cooler in 3 days.As long as it works though.Do you sell many cats for taxi work?
