Each lot gets a different color nose tag and each lot is carded with tag color and number in lot. Wire dividers between lots of same species.

Is there much of other species or are you overrun with coyotes?

Seems like the usual amount of grease fur and other sundry stuff. Approx 3200 coyotes, 125 cats. Plus or minus, quick swag by the folks in the office

Reading bids now. Not too bad, very few no-sales. Too soon to break out prices though. Looking like maybe ~$40-60aves on coyotes, that's based on some VERY quick trapper napkin math. Rusty will post up some better numbers later today. Still have to shag fur and cleanup, so it'll be a while. Just heard top coyote was $215 and cat $366. Rat aves 3.40 off more trapper math..... stay tuned for better numbers.

All trussed up and ready for shagging...

Bids in at 10 AM

Shagging started about 2 PM

Sweeping at 4PM

The time between shagging and sweeping is great. My question is - why 4 hours between bids in and shagging.

Now - before everyone jumps down my throat - I know exactly how western fur sales work. I ran the Oregon sales for 10 years. I don’t need you to lecture me on the effort involved in running a sale.

I’m asking a simple, honest question. I’m looking for an honest answer, not a bunch of criticism.

Fair question Nancy. Making sure all the numbers were entered, last minute adjustments, error corrections, etc took some time. Getting the bids read, no sales dealt with and everyone lined out to make sure shagging was done right and all the fur went to the right buyers a little more time. Once we got rolling it went as fast as 3500 skins can go. Had to locate on misplaced lot of 5 coyotes, otherwise was smooth. Lots of help with the cleanup crew which is really appreciated.

I don't know how the ITA does it but at our sale. Bids often aren't in on time. Then they are downloaded to computer and multiple printouts made(how good, fast is the technology). Printouts go back to buyers for final ok(we don't like to hear Oh I made a mistake when we are reading bids). Then back to computer guru for top bid to be determined and printouts to be made to give to each buyer of what they bought. Need to read off no sales to see if seller wishes to accept lower bid and then make changes to buyers printout on what they bought. With the amount of fur they had I am impressed with four hour turn around. You have to remember we only do this once or twice a year so we seem to keep changing the process trying to improve.
It seems like last year they were there until the wee hours of the morning so they must be getting it streamlined.

So the ID sale is a closed bid auction? ND is a live bid.

Curious about the top cat ? Any pictures of it? Depending on the quality it could be a major price drop.

3,318 coyotes average of $51.55 top of $215. My lot of coyotes went for $61 average. Cats 116 average of $137.52 top of $357. I’ll post more details tomorrow after I can breathe again.
