I’ve never skinned a coon before and my grandpa hasn’t in 40 years. Neither of us have fleshed them before so we both pulled the tail in 2 on ours, he skinned his out good but mine has a hole in from an accidental knife cut. Now to fleshing... we stuck it on the beam (already had the burrs out). Oh my it looks like it got thrown through a lawn mower. We cut it way to much and had to end up tossing it.

Thats ok, keep at it. This is a good year to learn, since prices are so bad. Just about everyone ruins their first few unless they have watched lots beforehand.

Watch this 3 part video on coon skinning, fleshing and boarding. It will help a lot.

Last year was my first year trapping. We got several coon last year. Skinning got easier and is pretty quick now. Fleshing is still a struggle. I don't know when I'm done. I tend to keep scraping until I've hit hair follicles. Coon are greasy and I want to get all the fat off but it's never gone.
