So how would you go about preserving some cantaloupe to use as a bait for coyote ? I have had many Cantalope in my garden eaten by coyotes so I know they like Cantalope

I don't believe it is possible but I do believe it is a seasonal food for coyote and you would not get the same results in winter.
Wish I had more time to trap....

I used salt and cheap vodka to preserve my cantaloupe. It looks the same as when I put it up last year. I use it as an ADC bait for groundhogs.

I bought a 1kg bag of Sodium benzoate on eBay for 4.95, it's commonly used in salad dressings and jellies, although I haven't preserved fruit with it yet, it's kept a tub of shredded field mice very fresh smelling for around 10 months now, my wife hates that bucket so much but to me it just smells of fresh meat and mouse pee and still looks like freshly shredded mice

Persimmons have been loooooong gone from our trees down here, BUT a Persimmon Bait is catching yotes/fox/coon NOW.

My experience with testing a lot of stuff is just because they eat it, doesn't mean it's a good bait. And the main reason I can come up with is because for several reasons most coyotes are cautious when working a set. The attraction needs to be interesting enough to over come their suspicion. Keep in mind how hungry they are also plays into it. Good advice right there. Had a lot of coyote guys make bait with lamb or sheep. Doesn't work well. "But they eat sheep all the time!" Ya, they do. Mainly at a time when they are trying to bring home thousands of calories to hungry puppies.
