I've been using a converted vintage fridge as my smoker for a number of years and I'm contemplating an upgrade. I want something that can hold a decent amount of meat (40# at a time would be nice) and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the Pit Boss vertical smokers? Specifically, I'm looking at buying the PBV7P1, which is electric/wood pellet unit.

Any insights at all about the brand would be helpful. Thanks much.

I have that one, not the one you mentioned but its very easy to use and does a great job for smoking meats.

It'll hold a lot of meat. Here's 7 big racks of ribs...

I've done a 20lb brisket and a turkey at the same time. Also 4, 12# pork shoulders at once.

I've got the copperhead 7. It has some hotspots in it and runs about 20 degrees colder then what the temp gauge shows. but that was in November. I run a thermometer on my cooking rack and a meat probe. I did 2 whole briskets and 2 pork shoulders it September no issues and had room for a couple pans of smoked mac and cheese too. Keep it clean and the waterpan full, I moved mine up a couple of levels so it doesn't evaporate so fast and helps with temp control better.

We gave our son one for Christmas last year. Not sure if it is the same model. It has the digital controls on top. He loads that thing up and puts out some of the best smoked meats I have ever had. This year we bought him a 4-probe digital thermometer that lets him keep track of several types/cuts of meat, all on the smoker at the same time. He really likes it. He built a little outhouse-looking enclosure for it for use in the cold months.

He bought a Pit Boss Silver 3 for us this Christmas but I have not used it yet.
