Rome, NY Police received a complaint that a man was grilling a canine. The guy said it was a coyote. The carcass has been sent to Cornell U for test to determine species. If it is a domestic dog the guy faces serious charges.
Don’t have the link, but search WKTV Utica, NY grilling canine.

You can eat a cow but not a dog. It's doubtful either knows it's being cooked. I wonder if anyone has been prosecuted for swallowing a live goldfish?

What the heck! Id be ticked if cops showed up and took my coyote drumsticks i have on the smoker. Man, id be exiting that state as fast as i could. Id like to extend hot kristi noems invitation to move to SD. IF you arent a liberal. If you like low pay, sort of high housing, and all the freedom to grill all the coyote you want, this is your place.

it's NY what do you expect they are sending a guys dinner to a lab to be tested

you would have thought the burden of proof was on the PD to say it was a dog for sure before taking a mans dinner. just say something like next time we need you to retain the hide for ID sort of like leaving the skin on fillets till cooking them.

my neighbor stopped over a few weeks ago , said man from my kitchen window it looked like a dog hanging on your skinning rack , no just a small pig I let hang over night before skinning and cutting.

I do live in town , the ordinance states you may not hang a carcass not for human consumption. so as long as your eating it or plan to it is just food hanging.

Enough with the Ny bashing. LOL. You can cook and eat all the coyotes you want
in NY .
LE stated that it had been cooked beyond recognition whether it was a domestic dog or coyote. But you cannot cook and eat Fido.

Holly Molly... I had a guy call my business a day or two ago, wanting to know if he could eat a Coyote legally in New York. I explained to him that as long as they were in season, and he had met all legal requirements in harvesting it, I didn't see why not. I wouldn't suggest it, but didn't think it was illegal. Never really thought he was going to have a Bar B Que and do it. Has to be the same guy that called.

Any idea how many dogs have been eaten by Native americans in the past couple hundred years? Probably a million.

The Lewis and Clark expedition when wintering on the Pacific coast, preferred local native American dog meat over salmon fillets.

no judgment on eating dog it is just meat as long as he precured the livestock through sale , trade or his own raising and not by theft.

some judgment on cooking something beyond recognition although they dig recognize it as a possible dog or coyote. so is that really beyond recognition? stew meat is beyond recognition but even then you can often tell what it is mutton is darker than beef , pork is identifiable as not beef or chicken or mutton , venison. some things like telling goat from mutton might be a little hard
