I want a Tikka t3x 223 for predator hunting but I have 300 rounds of 5.56 and I was wondering if anyone knew if it would safely shoot 5.56 I can't find anything anywhere on it.

Shouldn't be a problem.

if the rifle says 223rem on the side of it , the official answer will be no.

run them in something else marked 5.56 or 223 wylde

the external case is identical in dimensions , however 5.56 allows bullets to be seated longer where the could be touching rifling in a 223 and at greater pressure than 223 rem

a few manufacturers will be able to look at their chamber specs and say it is or is not an issue we cut our chamber big enough. the 223Rem marked mini 14 by Rugar is one such gun they built them basically 5.56 before it was a thing.

if I am the RSO (nra range safety officer) on the range and you ask me , I will say no SOP states you must only shoot what your rifle is marked for unless you have a letter from your gunsmith stating it is a safe alternative.

call sako/tikka and ask it may also help to know exactly what ammo you have they may be able to tell you XM193 is ok but the 5.56 77gr rounds are too long. that would need to come from the manufacture or engineer with chamber specs and ammo specs.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Iíve always been told if itís not stamped on the barrel for 5.56 and .223, you should only shoot .223 in it.

If it's designated 223, you can ream the chamber for 5.56. Doesn't take much. I'm too lazy to go downstairs to get one of my reloading manuals to explain the difference.

Thank you this is the most informative helpful comment I got I'm gonna call tikka

Due to liability you will only hear this ^^^ but I bet it shoots just fine figuring very few rifles or ammo are that tight in tolerances. However, I wouldn't tell anyone to do it either, due to liability. If it was all I had and the bad guy was coming my way, I'd not hesitate to pull the trigger.

if the rifle chamber says 223, no, will be too high of a pressure, you will need to have a 556 chamber or 223 wylde chamber
