We need to come up with a standard way to measure Bobcats weight can be deceiving full belly verses empty bellies. Length from tip of tail to nose, paw measurement or distance between the ear tips. Weight fluctuates to much for an accurate gauge as to actual size.

Nice cats. Any idea how far they go before being treed?

Sometime far, sometimes not so far,and sometimes won't tree and runs circles in the thick evergreen thickets or into holes in the ground or brush piles.Sometimes even bay up in the thick stuff and fight the dog or dogs.

Bobcats are also known for leaping up into the trees leaving no scent going up the tree trunk like a coon or bear.Your bobcat hound has to use sight alot to locate the correct tree the bobcat has gone up in.

Wildlife artist does a great job on those cats. A lot of skill there.

Thanks for the insight. They get pretty good money for those hunts, around fifteen hundred last I knew.

Down in Grand Lake Stream the cat hunts are about $2500

Bruce is correct the dog man is Paul Laney. It's been seven year since I've dog hunted with Paul. The bears & cats we ran never went up a tree. The last time I cat hunted it was 20 some below and we just went into the thick brushy woods with a shotgun to try to shoot the cat when it went by. Cats don't go far in deep snow. We probably never got a mile from the truck but it took three or four hours for the cats to stop running. In the end I just walked up within ten feet or so and used my 22 S&W. We didn't weigh the cat but estimated 30. Maine cats run big. My Taxidermist bought the biggest form they sold and had to add four inches to it. It was a cold day back in 2013.

BTW, an old cat hunter told me that without deep snow the big toms will run forever and you will not catch them.

Nice, eb. I don't think I have the stamina to chase a dog today. I used to chase my bird dogs from daybreak to dark but those days are gone. My heaviest cat to date weighed 32 pounds but I'm sure there are bigger ones around. I've had a couple of tanks on camera but never connected.

At age 74 I think I'm done chasing dogs. I was at my last treed bear four years ago. I have a friend one year older than me that has a bunch of dogs and he still gets it done

For you gun guys. Here is a shot of my cat gun.
