Can someone tell me how to operate a wood stove. It must 100* in the cabin. I fired it up when we got here and burned 2-3 pieces to get some nice hot coals. Just before bed I loaded it up and closed up the intake and closed the damper. That was almost 6 hrs ago.

If it leaks air, you can't shut it down. Good quality wood stoves are airtight so you can control them. You control fire by controlling the air and exhaust. A flue damper doesn't completely close, so you're dependent on the intake air seal to close it down. It sounds to me like your stove leaks air. Check the door gasket, it might need to be replaced or stuck back in. You can get stove gasket cement for attaching it, and it also works for sealing cracks and small leaks temporarily.
Boco couldn't catch a cold. But if he did, it would be Top Lot.

Mix a bit of green with the seasoned-wont burn as hot, burn longer. Use wood with less BTU-softwood instead of hardwood or mix it up.

Appears to be sealing good. Only place it leak is around the door. Maybe it’s warping when it gets hot. I’ll have to check that when it’s cooking again. Mix a bit of green with the seasoned-wont burn as hot, burn longer. Use wood with less BTU-softwood instead of hardwood or mix it up. Thanks Boco. I’ll give that a try.

When the stove is cold, put a dollar bill between the door, and stove shut the door and lock it, if you can move the dollar bill around or pull it out the door seal has flattened out and needs replaced

if it leaks around the door , you can't control it , you need a new door seal I should have said “only place it can leak is around the door.” When the stove is cold, put a dollar bill between the door, and stove shut the door and lock it, if you can move the dollar bill around or pull it out the door seal has flattened out and needs replaced I will check it next time it is cold.

Just before bed I loaded it up and closed up the intake and closed the damper. That was almost 6 hrs ago. crack a window once you have a good coal bed you are holding more heat in the stove with the damper closed than if you were to open it . let the fuel burn faster , but send much of that heat up the chiminy you may also need a door seal n the stove unless you have an outside air intake on the stove a pipe that comes in the rear or bottom from outside you are pulling cold air through door seal and cracks and such in the cabin. when the damper is wide open your burning fast but much of that heat is going up the chimney and being replaced in the room by cold air , still burn wide open for your first fire every day at least it keeps the chimney clean , by drying out the creosote. how many sq feet is the cabin? it is hard to get a stove small enough for small spaces well insulated you end up building a few small fires during the day or cracking a window near the stove and just wasting some heat our stove is in the living room , my bedroom is off the living room all the other bedrooms are 2nd floor I make a point of closing my bedroom door early in the evening when I have a fire going every day currently , my wife thinks 80 in the Livingroom is nice I generally sit in the dining room the other side of the wall from the stove there is a big opening between living and dining room 7 foot wide door way but it puts me out of the direct heat from the stove . we can still talk but I don't have to melt. also when I am home and in for the day I put on beach attire , cotton gym shorts and a cut off t-shirt , if she wants it 80-85 in the livig room and 72-75 in the dining room I need to dress like 80-90 30-40 outside 1500sq feet is easily heated with the wood stove , 0 out changes that some a good fire needs to be kept all day keep in mind I have a leaky 1909 house with almost all original windows and a crawl space under part of the house and so-so insulation
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

recipe for chimney fires, that and choking the stove down with a big load of wood so the fire doe not burn completely and deposits flammable materials in the chimney. you have to burn less wood and stoke it more often with small amounts. or just open a window

No problem mixing green wood with seasoned.Done it all my life, especially in the fall/spring.Let the fire rip once in a while to clean out the chimney helps.Choking down an airtight woodstove will cause more problems and foul the chimney a lot quicker than burning a bit of green wood.Green black spruce burns best, almost as good as seasoned and lasts longer.Green jackpine doesnt burn worth a darn. Clean or change pipes in fall at cabin. Seen a few stovepipes clean themselves out, lol.Looks scary but not as bad as people think. If your pipe goes through an attic it could be a problem. At the cabins we run the pipe thru a wall and use a cement slab where the pipe goes thru.
