Thank you for the help explaining that the cable wasn't legal I took down the snare along with some trees.

Wire that carcass to a tree and raise your snare higher.

That whole setup doesn’t look very good for coyotes though. Maybe a fox will go for it.

I don’t like where the snare is, but it might just be the angle.

Looks like a lot of work for 0 reward.

Being frozen won't stop critters from nawing on it or carrying it off. Wire it to a tree and off the ground. Rodents will work on it too! Set several snares, not just one.

The closer to the bait you set, the more likely the critter is to be extra cautious. I prefer to set on the to/from trails as far away as possible. This not only keeps me in compliance with the open bait restrictions we have, it also helps catch more critters (for me anyway).

IF you got a 24 hour check'.Dont set your snares till the bait is hit. This will save you lots of time. The animals might not work the bait for 2 weeks.
After the bait is hit. Then refresh, set the trails that the animals have made. Set a min. of 12 snares.

Personally I think I'd pull that picture looks like a hand full of broken laws.

Thank you where would you put it to avoid that?

I think you got some good advice above... go pull that set down and remove the pic. I am not sure on WI's regs, but you would be in trouble here in Ontario because (as noted) you are set too close to entanglement which would change your CR to a killing snare if the animal got wrapped on the trees.
Guessing exposed bait may be an issue for you as well and you are asking for a non target capture

Just happy to be here.

You need to find trails that coyotes are using out of the thick brush and hang your CR's there. Its basically a numbers game. You can't use snares like footholds and think one near bait is going to make a catch. Set 4 dozen on tracks then you'll make some catches. If you get lucky they may not even chew out before you get there. You don't need any bait.

I spent a few years baiting coyotes and personally I dont think 1 beaver carcass is going to be enough for the animals to make trails. Interesting notes I have from those years was some locations I couldn't keep bait there they attacked it quickly I baited with 2 55gal drums of butcher scraps and sometimes it was gone in 3 days. Others they wouldn't even touch and I know they're there as I'd see tracks and droppings 50 yards from it. But previous comment did state what I found also, set as far as way from the bait as you can but still on their trail. Seemed like the bait would go dead for a while if I cabled a coyote right beside it. What I never made it around to doing was trying bait piles with traps on drags I think would be the ultimate energy saving set for you looking at all that timber in the photo. I just don't know if it would be as high percentage of a catch rate. Just food for thought! Good luck

ADC don't tell him to set In heavy brush . He can't legally do that.
