Usually put the stink in predrilled holes. But you can just smear it in the block. Urine on block slowly so hopefully some soaks in.
Cut a section of untreated 4x4 and char it with a propane torch. Made a quick bracket for the bottom with a long carriage bolt.

If using that small of a block in a field which side do you put the trap on?

The stink is only on one side. Trap goes there. I believe Slim is the one that I learned it from. Really stands out in the snow or heavy frost.
