How deep is the river? Did anyone witness where she went in? If so, generally the recovery will be within 150 > 200' of that spot.

I've noticed that after they bloat, deer and raccoons get stuck in log jams in eddies. In cold water there is not likely to be much gas production in the digestive tract by bacteria, so bodies should not float as well. I hope you can find your friends' daughter to give them closure.
Keith summer would be easy thanks Keith

Vink,
I know very little about this, never done it. But with the info you've provided it sounds like a "needle in a haystack" scenario... She could be 100 yards down from the bridge hung on an underwater snag... Or 100 miles away.
God bless you man. I can't even fathom what that's like.

I hate all river recoveries! A lot more information would be needed. But the one thing that always plays in is, what type of debris is in the river.

What was she wearing. Call it off until spring then she will turn up in the closest backwater

Body will stay down in water that cold for extended time. Decomp gases will build but will be slow. Took 2 months for a 275 lb man to float here in southern Ga. He went down in early January....recovered him in early March. And temps when he went down was low 20s. Water temps in upper 40s. Body size/composition/last meal will factor in to float time, but that cold water will slow it all way down.....like food in a fridge...it'll take a while to go bad.
Hope yall recover her soon. Be safe.

Just for info, sorry to hear of this. A few years back around Thanksgiving an guy, his wife and daughter tipped their canoe in a small river I trap. They tipped in a bend where there was a snag. The two women made it out, the husband did not. I was wondering what happened as the river was very low the next morning. They had closed off the dam upstream to lower the river. I had a set right at the snag, on the other side of the small river. With the river lowered, I could walk almost the entire way to that snag. Every morning, I would walk out there and look into that water, I knew he was there, it was about the only place he could have been but it was deep and fast moving, I couldn't see very deep. About two week later, they found him. about 100 yards from the snag, floating. I don't really have a point here. I'm just telling what happened. Cold water and obstacles can hid a body for quite awhile. I hope the family gets closure soon.
I BELIEVE IN MY GOD, MY COUNTRY AND IN MYSELF.

When the body finally floats it wont float long.....a few days maybe, depending on temps. Maybe it'll hang up and be recovered....because it will eventually sink again and not resurface.
Current doesn't matter until body floats. Until decomp gasses buildup the body will sit there like a concrete block. That's hard for folks to believe but it's true. In 25 years and dozens of search and recoveries I've never seen it any different.

Being a glacial river 1 > 22' may change things a bit. Yes, what she was wearing, any food taken in can make a difference. Old "saying" is 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months for recovery.

When the body finally floats it wont float long.....a few days maybe, depending on temps. Maybe it'll hang up and be recovered....because it will eventually sink again and not resurface. That is why I asked about clothing. They will float a longer time in spring if wearing a skidoo suit or such type clothing. Often bodies recovered here in spring will be found with other animals that went thru ice, like moose,in the same backwater eddys. Kind of predictable where to look in a river for floater. There is a sandbar on the red sucker river where it enters the Abitibi that always has half buried dead animals in spring. My advice would be to get someone who knows the river hydrology well and you will have a better idea where to look in spring.

I am sure they are using drones. Bright days, fast and easy to deploy at a real low cost. They can be use when the recovery has been called off. Sorry to hear of your loss.
