Easy peasy for any halfway decent tech. Trouble is nobody wants to pay halfway decent tech.

Still cheaper than this scam. I had this one once I think and a hard reset took care of it.

This scam is usually a website scam. Problem is most people don't know how to get out of a program, in this case your browser, without hitting the X .

I fell for it too. Half way through I had second thoughts. When the guy quoted prices I said no way. Took it to a local computer repair shop. The guy said yes, you where had. Boy did I feel stupid. He went over the computer and installed windows 10. I changed a few passwords too.

Happened to me back when I still used a computer. Called the number, during the conversation I got real suspicious. Got kinda heated, ended when I asked for their location so we could straighten it out like men. Computer was completely locked up. Took it to a shop here in town and got it wiped for 75 bucks

i got suckered into this in alaska too .it totally freezes the computer till you phone the number (unless you are savey enough to get past that) and i did phone and paid dearly for it .but if it freezes your computer just shut the computer right down as in pull the battery out and reboot or just hold the off button for 10 seconds till the computer shuts right down and then it frees up your computer again

A good friend of mine was taken on a cell phone scam this past week.
Caller started by saying his phone had been compromised over three months ago.
To make a long story short within the next two days his checking account was short $3,000.
Thankfully they did not wipe him out.
He filed paper work with the bank and police. Both said they would do all they could but don't hold his breath.
Wish the scammer would walk down a known dark alley.

Take a few hours and learn how your computer works. It doesn't take a genius to wipe and repartition and install a operating system on a hard drive. No need to lock your front door and leave the back door wide open.

I have Norton never had a problem with it yet but I get notices that it expired but it’s auto renew so I know it’s a scam but it looks real as all get out. I just look on my computer and it reads that it’s still active. Trust nothing on the web better to delete the wrong message the open or fall for the wrong one.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials on my older machines and Malware Bytes and Kaspersky on the newer ones. All free.

The only problem I ever had was about 20 years ago when using Norton.
