That, and a lot of other similar reviews is why i want one of that era. I have wanted one since about the time they were made. According to the price, others feel the same as i do

Back in 2001, we bought a new loaded Expedition for my wife. She drove it quite a bit. We used it for local and highway driving and get good mileage for a big vehicle. It still looks like new and has 147,000 miles. Around home rural driving we get 14 mpg. Engine is great. Have pulled boats and trailers long distances.

You could get a 5.3 in a truck too ya know. IMO, the GM 5.3 is the best game in town if you're looking for a used, full-size half-ton. My 2000 has 288k miles, and I've never done a thing to the motor except change the oil and filters. I don't think I've even touched the sparkplugs. Just routine brakes, joints and bearings.

I've got 2 kids and a 3rd on the way, so I upgraded my single cab 5.3 to a crew cab Duramax last year. It's really nice hauling 3x the load for the same fuel mileage smile. My wife currently has a Nissan Pathfinder but when she needs an upgrade theres no question it'll be a Suburban/Yukon, unless we can afford a Sequoia.

You can tell something about car brands by how their drivers talk:

Ford drivers start talking about "High Mileage" at like 150k.
Dodge drivers are about the same unless they got a Cummins, then they just count transmissions.
Chevy drivers don't think about mileage until after 200k at least.
And Toyota drivers like Paul just yawn and budget their pennies for a replacement at 1 million miles or 2.

My cousin still drives his '97 F150 with the 5.4. He has well over 300,000 miles on it . Retired cop and farm kid--good mechanic. Around here the body and frame go long before an engine. That being said the 5.4 does have spark plug problems, breaking off while trying to remove.

I've had several F-150's with the 5.4 and haven't experienced any issues, (cracked exhaust manifold once- covered under warranty) the plug change comes at 100,000 miles, I'm sure they're seized tightly in place after that mileage and I always take it into a Ford Dealership for that procedure.

Im a ford guy but hate those 5.4 engines. Buy a chevy if you want a full size truck around those years. You really cant go wrong with a 5.3 or 6.0.
