Just got my first rat sets in the marsh I mentioned awhile back. Figured out why no one traps there as the first huts have ice all the way down and the ones with enough water are a couple of hundred yards away. At the first set of huts I saw mink tracks looked around a bit and found a muskrat carcass picked clean laying by a hole going into the hut.

Quite honestly you have started during a difficult period in the season. If you can get them now the rest of the time will be a cakewalk.
Make no mistake, you can get them. But you’ll have to earn em. And when you do they are gonna be NICE!

Good Luck!! Had the same experience this season..except it was otters. A few huts and pop-ups had big holes bored through them and the telltale vomit and hop, hop, slide tracks in the snow tell the story.

Get em NorthernTrapper, dont focus on the big huts, look for the smaller pushups. Im sure the ice is a foot thick on the lake I'm on, but im not chiselling more than 4"s or so...
