If I was to start looking I would drag the area last seen. Second I would look in eddy’s or around them. I would look in sharp river bends. Places you see debris built up. Watch for crows or buzzards. If the river has dropped look in a boat then scour the bank.
Do a media release and get a television crew to film your efforts.
When the average joe is riding around in his boat and see’s a red piece of clothing if he is informed of the recovery he will go look and see what the red thing is. If he’s unaware he will fly on by in his boat. You want boaters out looking for the body the day the internal gas decides to float the body.
Meet up with the Game Warden or Water Patrol and ask them for help and suggestions. People are willing to help they just need to know what to do.
I wish you luck and sorry to hear this.

Some good advice here. A friend in high school was fishing behind a dam in early spring when the flood gates opened. He drowned. They recovered him three months later about four miles down river on a sandbar. A fisherman saw something washed up and went to investigate.

Perhaps posting Missing flyers at the boat docks in the area, local bars, and local bait shops. Outdoors people could be several hundred extra pairs of eyes in the search.

Prayers to you.

Prayers to everyone involved, I can't imagine what they are going through, and pray they find the young lady and have closure on this.

Side scan sonar is a must for this kind of thing. You can actually see them on the bottom. Divers can go in and check out anything that looks like a person. Have worked two drownings, one was a kid swimming that couldn’t swim, stepped off into the river channel and went down. The second went over the dam in a boat. Both were found right where they went in. Our rivers are controlled by the corps of engineers so they are not free flowing with lots of current. In that kind of scenario it has been my experience that they don’t go far once they go down, but perhaps your water conditions are different.

I have no experience in recovering a body but I had an alert brother fifteen years my senior pull me out when I was going down for the count. I was young, maybe ten and I have no recollection of being panicked at all. It seemed almost peaceful. I'm sorry to hear of it, it's tragic and I hope the family gets closure soo.

That's too bad Vinke. Best wishes for your family.

I had a great uncle, a river rat a hundred years ago. Before he died, he would tell me about dragging the river for people who drowned. Several times he said most look to far from where they went in. After time, you'll find them farther down stream.

Praying that you can find that young lady soon Vinke, no man should have to bear the weight you have placed on your shoulders.

Have you reached out to these folks for assistance? They are in your state. They used dogs this summer on a recovery here. One dog alerted to where they found the man. Keep the faith.
