Hi all,
I am new to this forum and new to trapping, so I thought I would introduce myself an apologize in advance for any dumb questions I am sure I will be asking in the near future. I'm from SE PA and have been a hunter most of my life. I've always thought about getting into trapping but never knew anyone who trapped. Over the past couple of years we have been seeing fishers where I hunt deer a little further north, and with many of the locals blaming them for a reduction in turkey sitings, I finally had a compelling reason to pursue trapping.

I didn't get my fisher license in time for this year's short PA fisher season, so I figured I'd get my feet wet pursuing more common quarry like fox, raccoons, and the occasional coyote, now that hunting season was over. Armed with information from a book a recently purchased and YouTube, I put out a few traps during a short stint at deer camp over the holidays, but didn't have any luck. Last weekend, I set 6-8 traps on public land close to home and got a raccoon and opossum within just a few days, even though my sets were intended for canines.

From the moment I set my first trap, I knew this was going to get in my blood, and haven't been able to stop thinking about it. So look forward to several of those dumb newbie questions in the coming weeks, and thanks in advance for any assistance rendered. This is a great forum and I'm grateful for all of the information shared here.

Welcome and like was said check out the archives. There is enough reading there to make your eyes bleed. Wish this resource would of been available when I first got started.

Welcome but one piece of advice I would give you . Be careful setting public land if people are using it . Bird hunters and rabbit hunters will make your trapping career short lived if you catch their dog. Use water sets or dog proofs in high traffic areas. Catch you some coons, get outside . Walk around after a snow on the ground and study the animals travel patterns.
Coons are the number 1 threat to turkey nest . Then raptors to the pullets. So buy you some dog proofs. Get you some strawberry marshmallows and a bag of cat food . You can set them on public land without much fear of a bunny buster getting mad !

ima say welcome to the obsession addiction new life. don't worry about any questions you ask the fine ladies and gentlemen here will answer them all. we were all knew once to trapping. I learned most of what i know from reading here and can say this forum got me into trapping during a time in my life when i needed it most. it is now who i am. so enjoy and ....ask away and don't ever be ashamed for catching anything trapping it aint a science that works every time. some times even the best guys here will admit they learn something new every time they are out its why they still do it and love it. if not we would all get bored if it was easy. i will say as someone who was knew fairly recently last 10-15 yrs ....learn to put up fur. ask questions and all but learn as in do it and fail. if ya haven't already. and learn on every critter ya can cause if fur prices go up you can make money putting up fur. and will get more for your own fur doing a god job putting up your own. and it sure looks dang nice when ya do a good job and someone says it. i still learn every day putting up fur i am by far no expert on it at all. cause it takes a while to get there. least for me. enjoy the fun here great bunch IMO who help a lot.
