This, like many laws, should not exist. The government has no place telling me I have to have a job. Deny unemployment benefits, sure, but if someone chooses to find alternative means to survive rather than work a 9-5 it’s none of the governments business. Neither is it their business if someone makes their living gambling or prostituting. The only reason those are illegal is because it goes against Christianity, and last I checked the United States constitution guarantees us freedom of religion, so the government has no right to impose Christian values upon us. The vast majority of cultures/religions around the world do not look favorably to being a sloth, prostitute or professional gambler. And people around the world enjoy them to. It's not unique to western Christianity

Non-religious values. When something restricts or hurts another individual, that should be illegal. Two people willingly engaging in an act such as gambling or prostitution, both knowing full well the risks and implications, should never be restricted by the government. Nobody’s rights are infringed upon and nobody who didn’t willingly agree to the arrangement is directly affected.

Your rights and freedoms in this country are spelled out in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The idea that we have unlimited freedoms do as we please beyond those written is incorrect. Your comments on my idea of freedom seems be more based on my questioning you on what values we should use and your assumptions that if I don't agree with you my opinions must be totally opposite of yours and based less on anything I have stated. I must admit I get a bit zealous when it comes to the discussion on values and morals and therefore will apologize if my points are made to strongly. Morals and values are truly the backbone of a society yet in recent generations we have intentionally been taught nothing about them and the fruit is ripening. Even from a scientific point of view a society without a strong moral fiber cannot survive and prosper. We have intentionally been made ignorant in this socal understanding. True science will point that a strong society first starts with a strong nucleus at the family level. Certain thing that we have been taught that should be our freedoms undermine the foundations of morality and therefore weaken a society and therefore must be regulated for the best interest of the group. True social science points to this. I truly believe we are were we are at as a Nation because we have not understood the role of morals in human society. There's countries without much of codified morals..... How's that working for them? Good post Yes Sir

There are also countries with strict religious moral codes-Iran,Saudi Arabia for example-I would not live in a place like that.They can stick that where the sun dont shine.

Preservation of estate and bloodline is what it boils down to with marriage. Marriage was originally instituted as a legal concept because when a man passed away all of his estate was left to his sons. Marriage was what they came up with to ensure that his sons really were HIS sons. Had nothing to do with religion, religion picked it up way later, because almost all religions were started and presided over by men, and mostly still are, and it was beneficial to them to have legal and religious standards in place that ensured a man didn’t end up raising and passing his estate to a child that wasn’t his bloodline.
