They used to be made better. Still not sure if there is a better tip up out there. I use em....I used a Dremel and cut a slit in the ring so I can pull the line out for easier line roll up. Do it in the right spot.

I love Beaver Dams. It's the only tip-up I use. I grew up in Beaver Dam though, so I might be biased. I haven't seen any better though. The HT and Frabill ones I've tried kinda sucked.

I just don't like how hard they are to roll up when you're picking up at the end of the day. Is there any tricks to it Read my first post.

I just don't like how hard they are to roll up when you're picking up at the end of the day. Is there any tricks to it Like noted above.....you can take a wizz wheel ...and cut a slit into the pot metal line guide....sand all the burrs off ....then you can slip the line through the slit...and wind away ! Just don’t forget to put the line back in the slit ...before sending it down the hole.

I swear by Heritage tip ups. Maine company, but by far the most rugged and well rounded trap I've used. Have probably caught thousands of fish on one set of traps. https://heritagetraps.com/products/heritage-muskie-standardI have a set of the Muskie Standard, and have landed everything from small finnicky trout to trophy sized lake trout, to cusk at night.

X2 with Nessmuck: Use the Beaver Dams in water 10-15 feet for trout, because there such light biters, and very little resistance, for the flag to trip. Use the big spooled Jakes going after big Lakers, and salmon in deep water 80 to 110 feet, here on Superior. I think I brought my Beaver dams in the late 70s.
