Yep not an easy day I bet. Those guys that worked that land for 40 or 60 years the land alone has a lot of sentimental valve as well. I will never sell any land and will be the heirs when I'm not here. Land I have become attached to more then anything.
I wish you well.

glad to hear it went well, LDW....
one of the saddest things I ever had to do was to go through Dad's personal stuff after his death. It just "wasn't right"...but it had to be done. It was hard to do, watching all his stuff hauled off. I'm the only boy, so it seemed to all fall in my lap. The girls didn't have to do much. Glad it's over.

I'm glad it went well, bummed that you had to have it. Unfortunately, one of the things in life is as we age, everybody in the generation ahead of us ages as well, and most of us live long enough to get "orphaned". Doesn't make it any easier but it will come.
"And God said, Let us make man in our image and let them have dominion and all the creatures that move along the ground". Genesis 1:26

My father in law did a smart thing, before he died he had sold his house to one of his grand son's and got a life lease. When he died everything went to his grand son. His grand son told may wife anything she wanted she could have. Much Much easier. But there was just a house.
Glad to hear everything went well! But still hard.

Sorry you had to deal with all that. I know it’s gonna be tough when we have to deal with our folks’ estate. Just going through the stuff will be a chore, dad has every kind of tool you can think of, in triplicate minimum. Three sheds full of fishin rods and camping gear, 2 acres of tractors and vehicles. Just sorting through the stuff is gonna be hard to get through emotionally. I know I won’t want to sell any of it

one quick story I feel compelled to share...
shortly after Dad died, I was going through his things in "the gun room" (used to be my bedroom). Dad had commandeered it after I moved out for guns/reloading set-up, etc.)...
anyway, Dad loved the outdoors, but never had time for much more than deer hunting a few days a year. He never trapped and I never saw him with a fishing rod in his hands...wasn't his thing.
but as I was going through his things, I came across a manila envelope on which he had handwritten "Do NOT throw out!". Inside, was a picture of the first bobcat I'd ever caught. It was a small,YOY kitten (really); but Dad was there for that trap check (he had come over to deer hunt); so he was an intimate part of that "first!". I had to release the cat because (at the time) there was no open season....but he felt strongly enough about it to want to save the moment.

Neat story, thanks for sharing. I have one also. Dad hunted coyotes for many years with hounds. As he got older he sold them. He was always fascinated with my trapping. One Sunday morning I was checking traps and had a coyote. I left him and went back to town and called dad to see if he wanted to ride with me. He said sure, but I'm going to coffee first. So I waited hoping the yote didn't get away. Finally we went to check. After several empties we popped over a hill and I said look there we got one. That 80 year old man was so excited. Every since I've call ed that location, dad's set. I never did tell him I set him up. Will never forget the look on his face.
